Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt enjoys an ideal location tucked into Tegernsee Valley on the shores of Lake Tegernsee, considered by many the ‘German Hamptons’ an all-year-round exclusive destination for HNWI Germans but foreign travellers alike. The resort sits directly on the shores of the lake boasting picture perfect panoramic views of the lake, mountains and the village. Thanks to strict building codes, the local architecture supports the storybook setting of this nearly 1,300-year-old town.
Tegernsee is located in the Bavarian Alps, neighbouring Gmund am Tegernsee and Hausham are to the north, Schliersee is to the east, and Rottach-Egern to the south. The Bavarian state capital, Munich, is approximately 50 km (31 mi) north of the town, and the Austrian state of Tyrol is approximately 20 km (12 mi) south. offers aquatic sports such as swimming and fishing, and other activities including hiking and Nordic walking. One may climb the 700 metres to the top of the Baumgartenschneid.
Among the many attractions and activities is a boat tour with Seenschifffahrt Tegernsee or rent a boat and explore the lake on your own. In the summer, you can even go swimming in the crystal-clear waters. One many also spend the day taking a horse-drawn carriage ride or going for a hike through the Alps, enjoying authentic food in the beer gardens and surrounding restaurants, and hitting the slopes in wintertime. Luxury shopping (all major international luxury brands) are present throughout the village. You will also enjoy the many local galleries with antiques but also contemporary art.
Undoubtedly, one of the main features of Seehotel Überfahrt is its state-of-the-art luxury Spa with a wide array of treatments and facilities . Spanning 3000 sqm there are 4 pools (one outdoor), an expansive sauna & steam room area and a gorgeous relaxation lounge. The “Library” is complete with coffee table books, a fireplace, a tea fountain and the coziest day-beds. Complementing the luxury facilities is the exceptional service extended by the entire team with highly skilled and trained specialists.
Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt features beautifully appointed and light-filled rooms and suites (163) spread across several low-rise buildings with just as much as three floors. Many rooms and suites include floor to ceiling windows and generous balconies. The style is a mixture of classic luxury and contemporary with a deeply warm and residential and plush feel. Accommodations features warm beige and light brown colours with a plush twist. Beds are exceptionally comfortable. The full-marble bathrooms feature a walk-in shower, dual sinks, a large tub and a starlight ceiling.
Similarly to other Althoff Collection Hotels, Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt is a culinary destination in itself. Five restaurants are at your disposal, with “Restaurant Überfahrt” as the pinnacle of fine dining by Chef Cornelia Fischer who took over in September 2024. The menu is inspired by the cycle of nature and according to the motto ‘Everything moves in circles’. From the elegant setting to the presentation, quality of ingredients and service, the restaurant is defined by superlative luxury. The restaurant is frequented by many non-residing hotel guests.
The hotel also features two other dining venues which are equally popular – Il Barcaiolo (Italian) and Egener Bucht (Alpine cuisine). Taste and presentation of the dishes was amazing and you really feel the passion for quality here. I can also highly recommend the lobby bar – be sure to try their very own Gin. Breakfast is served at Egener Bucht and equally fantastic with everything you could possibly ask for. Hot dishes are prepared made to order and the large buffet features an extensive range of fresh breakfast items, all of high quality.
Service throughout the entire hotel is consistent, attentive, high individualised and extended in an effortless manner, without feeling formal or scruffy. Staff are genuinely warm and eager to serve at every encounter and at every department. I have felt appreciated, pampered and highly respected. There is also a sense of humbleness which I have highly cherished. Attention to details is paramount and service is also reliable and anticipatory. No wonder there is a very high number of returning guests.
