The highest tier of luxury hospitality continues to be dominated by Dorchester Collection (1), Bvlgari Hotels (1), Capella Hotels (2), Aman, Belmond (2), Oetker Collection (1), Cheval Blanc (1), One&Only (2), Maybourne Hotel Group (1) and Peninsula Hotels (2). Dorchester Collection, Cheval Blanc, Aman, Belmond and Peninsula Hotels are the only chains which own and operate most of their properties, while the rest are only operators.
Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts has been consolidating its dominant position among the specialist international luxury hotel groups, followed closely by Shangri-La Hotels, Mandarin Oriental Hotels, Rosewood Hotels and Auberge Resorts. Shangri-La Hotels has opened only 2 new properties in 2024 and has a limited pipeline, with sources indicating a potential sale of the company – the group owns over two thirds of its portfolio, the rest being only operated by the group.
Nobu Hotels added 3 new properties in 2024 and has a pipeline of 22 properties. Jumeirah Group, Langham Hotels, Rocco Forte Hotels, Groupe Barriere and Michel Reybier Hospitality (La Réserve Hotels) have been stagnating in 2024. German based luxury group Althoff Hotels is adding two new luxury properties in 2025. Taj Hotels and Oberoi Hotels remain largely focused on India. In 2024, Oberoi Hotels lost 3 international properties but is adding two by 2026.
Marriott International has taken over the lead as the global hospitality group with the fastest growing portfolio of luxury brands, followed closely by Hyatt (Park Hyatt) and Hilton (Waldorf Astoria). IHG‘s Six Senses and Regent Hotels have been garnering momentum, while Accor‘s luxury brands (Raffles, Fairmont, Orient-Express) have seen a slower growth in 2024, with a similar trajectory expected in 2025. Minor Group‘s Anantara Hotels has added several exceptional properties and is expected to announces more in 2025.
Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts has had a stellar 2024 with the highest number of new openings, also boasting the most impressive pipeline. Under the helm of CEO Alejandro Reynal, Four Seasons Hotels has been drastically improving its branding and communications, proving to be increasingly relevant for both travellers (guests) and investors (developers). The appointment of two new senior global operations executives in 2023 has also contributed to the consolidation of the group.
Most notable, Four Seasons Hotels projects in 2024 included activations (collaborations) with Dior (3), Dolce&Gabbana (1), KITH (1), Jacquemus (1). Interior design and aesthetics have been improving across renovations, culminating with a state-of-the-art signature suite at Four Seasons George V Paris, designed by Tristan Auer.
Four Seasons George V also made headlines during the Paris Olympics with a stunning real size pop-up basketball court, an ephemeral sports bar and a co-branded fashion capsule collection with KITH. Highly successful HBO series ‘The White Lotus’ was filmed on location at Four Seasons Taormina and Four Seasons Koh Samui – a partnership between Four Seasons and HBO.
