Jumeirah Group has most sensibly and strategically chosen Capri Palace as its first outpost in Italy. The uninterrupted success of Capri Palace has been orchestrated in the past 20 years by the immensely talented luxury hotelier Ermanno Zanini. Besides the unique product offering, a luxurious palace in the prestigious Anacapri on the island, Zanini also created the island’s most sought after restaurant, club and lounge, IL RICCIO, which is also the only Michelin starred beach club in the world.
Zanini biggest achievement is putting together a team that would function as a Swiss watch – in perfect synchrony and with the same genuine passion to serve. which one can only feel. There is also a unique sense of humbleness but also, I took so much pleasure watching staff speak about their pride to be part of such a unique family.
Even during these unprecedented crisis times posed by the pandemic. Zanini realised how important it to reopen to not only show the ‘open’ message but also implement extensively all the safety and hygiene measures to fully protect staff and guests alike. Also, unlike previous seasons dominated by American nationals, Capri Palace Jumeirah has been boasting an excellent performance, with most of its solid UHNWI Italian consumers returning, as well as Dutch, French. Swiss etc.
Personally, I found that reaching Capri from Venice could not be more safe and seamless. I took a domestic fight and I was so pleasantly surprised to see so many distancing and wearing of masks reinforced in most public spaces such as airports. For your ultimate safety, the hotel can also provide private boat / yacht transfers from Naples and it is proposing competitive rates. By taking a private transfer, you can be sure the car will be spotless (fully disinfected) and a perfectly groomed chauffeur who would not only wear a mask but would also apologise for the transparent vertical screen which he is separate from his customers.
Rooms and suites have been impeccably maintained although there have been no recent extensive renovations. Rooms are flooded by a superb white setting, all interior designs predominant in blue and white, with the motives of Capri present throughout. An upgrade to suite has a huge WOW factor with large bathrooms – separate glass enclosed showers and free-standing bathtubs. Most higher suite categories also have balconies. Beds are heavenly comfortable with high-thread luxury linen.
Breakfast is a feast with tables and trolleys abundant in the most delicious selection – even better than a buffet. Wherever you may dine, the bar by the pool or the terrace of L’OLIVO Restaurant, or even in-room dining, expect food to be exquisite and flawless service – the organic selection or fresh fruits or eggs is a treat. A few weeks from my stay, late July, the hotel has come up with a highly innovative indoor dining experience – an elevation of the main restaurant which has been sold out till the end of the season with any public information released.
Lounging by the main pool is a magnetic experience, with a very special energy. Expect to be pampered and really well taken care of. Whether a first time guest like myself, or a returning customer, you will not encounter any differences whatsoever
One of the major strengths of the hotel is its Spa, which, although it has a medical component does not feel as medical. There are iconic treatments such as ‘The school of legs’ a unique mud wrap and massage treatment that reduces any swelling of feet and provides exceptional detox.
You will be mesmerised by the setting of the Spa (Capri Beauty Farm), some treatment being performed outdoors, and effortlessly separated with soft and a unique ‘blowing in the wind’. The range of treatments include a full offering of facials and body treatment but also several more medical such as detox and weight loss, after a metabolism check by the full time on site doctor, specialising in balneo and recuperation.
Despite fierce competition this season, the team of Capri Palace have understood that it will be only through very had work and longer hours that they will be able to fly the flag. The involvement of Jumeirah was very well welcomed by both staff and returning guests. Besides the continued success of Il Riccio Restaurant frequented by even guests from other hotels, the hotel welcomes a special partnership, with the French luxury brand creating a unique retail and merchandising concept. The lounge at Il Riccio is also a place to see and be seen.
Given its location in Anacapri, away from bustling Capri Centre, Capri Palace Jumeirah ideally caters for those who prefer a most serene experience but also those seeking more activities and adrenaline. Luxury shopping with mono-brand stores of major international luxury brands are complemented by local stores which sell the superb azur of the island, reinterpreted. Within the main store at the hotel, one can buy Capri Palace merchandising but a lady customer can also have a hand made leather sandal built in minutes according to the ultimate personalisation.
This is also the first major international opening since CEO Jose Silva took helm at Jumeirah group (Jumeirah Hotels) his unique vision which is supported by Dubai Holding will see future properties in Paris or Rome. Jumeirah Carlton Tower, London is currently closed undergoing massive renovations. Jumeirah also manages a landmark luxury resort property in Palma de Mallorca, Jumeirah Port Soller.
Mention should also be made that Capri Palace Jumeirah has demonstrated utmost consistency and firmness when it comes to implementing strict safety and hygiene measures against Covid-19. Staff team have also been carefully trained to enforce certain rules, yet in an elegant manner. I was told that having Italians as guests add to the pressure, since their expectations may be even higher – when it comes to dining for instance.
