CELINE (LVMH) has recently opened its very first store in Madrid. The space, located at number 16 on Calle José Ortega y Gasset, is set to become a central feature of the luxury thoroughfare alongside brands including Chanel, Dsquared2, Loro Piana and Tiffany & Co
Amongst the international openings that Celine is planning in 2019 , the label has decided to take the plunge into brick-and-mortar in Madrid, where until now it only had two points of sale in El Corte Inglés of Castellana and Serrano. In the rest of Spain, the label headed by creative director Hedi Slimane has had a boutique at 91 Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona since 2015. Last October, a few days after the first Slimane-era runway for the brand, Celine launched its e-commerce platform in Spain, prior to which it had only been available online through 24 Sèvres.
Spreading across 174 square metres, Celine will stock only its womenswear collections, starting with Spring/ Summer 2019. The store was redeveloped under the new concept conceived of by Slimane and which was presented in mid-February, coinciding with the opening of its new flagship in New York: minimalism forged through metallic lines, imposing marble blocks and ample sets of mirrors.
CELINE which already has around 140 stores, plans to open new ones in Los Angeles, London, Shanghai and Beijing. Likewise, its parent company LVMH intends to double its turnover to reach 2 billion euros in the next five years.
