In an interview to LTA, Christopher Cowdray, CEO of luxury hotel group Dorchester Collection expressed a very optimistic outlook for the summer season, towards September especially. In all the properties where dining is available, Cowdray has also confirmed that more people are eager to dine out and those people who opt for the dining venues, which are presently open at Dorchester Collection hotels, customer spend more.
The two Dorchester Collection properties in Los Angeles currently operate at full capacity their outdoor dining capacity, expecting this week that indoor dining venues will be able to open at 25% capacity.
For the UK, as the pandemic restrictions are gradually lifted from mid-April, Cowdray expects an immediate boom from local consumption. Demand is already very strong for the outdoor dining venues, which is the first to open from April 12.
Although open, the two properties in Paris are impacted by the current lockdown restrictions with all dining and Spas closed. There is minimal occupancy for accommodations, some coming from filming. The situation is the same for Milan and Rome.
Cowdray insists that demand from September onwards is very encouraging and it remains to be seen what will be the scale of events which can be hosted – number of people at the same table etc. In particular ”We are seeing huge demand for weddings” adds Christopher Cowdray, ”with 50 weddings booked at Coworth Park for the next 3 months”
Mention must also be made that Dorchester Collection is one of the few international luxury hotel groups which made a commitment from March 2020 onwards to fully retain its human resources, all 3,800 staff around the world are being paid regularly.
