The new Gentle Monster store in Hangzhou is located within the Huangzhou Tower, a prestigious mixed-use complex in the city’s Tianshui neighbourhood. The store occupies a sizeable unit, and similarly to other Gentle Monster stores worldwide, it features an evocative themed interior design by the eyewear company’s in-house design team.
The theme is ‘Memory’ and sees a highly eclectic installation with an eerily lifelike elderly woman, seated and pensive, against a backdrop with two donkeys. Representing the woman’s memory, the animals each stand on a pedestal opposite each other, amidst what seem moving dismantled elements of a spacecraft, and behind it an elaborate mural.

Elsewhere on the premises, two other, equally artsy, installations can be found. One sees a massive pine tree branch, presented as if a potted bonsai, on an elevated plexiglass platform, while the other comprises of three Roman statues place on a rotating metal pedestal.
Both serve as a displays as they’re mixed and matched with Gentle Monster‘s highly desirable eyewear, either showcased on or alongside them. More merchandise is presented on shelves and in cabinets lining the walls. The sales counter has a strictly linear design with purple panelling and grill detailing. Large imagery of horse legs, tie in visually with the main donkey installation. The new Gentle Monster store carries the brand’s full range of glasses and sunglasses for both men and women.
