Built on the site of the former heritage hotel with the same name dating back to 1930, the newly opened Hotel de Paris has been successfully establishing itself as the leading contemporary luxury hotel in Saint Tropez. With an enviable location in the heart of Saint Tropez, opposite the somptuous villa of the Chanel maison, Hotel de Paris is within steps from the port and all the major luxury stores.
Hotel de Paris is not only the first luxury hotel to open in Saint Tropez in almost a decade, but it also marks a series of unique features for a luxury hotel in Saint Tropez – it is open all year round, with an ideal room count (52 rooms and 38 suites) making it suitable not only for leisure guests during the summer season but also for corporate guests off season.
The hotel also boasts the largest conference and events space in Saint Tropez among all luxury hotels, ideal for larger private or business events (the hotel recently hosted the launch of the latest model of luxury car brand). The hotel’s roof-top swimming pool with a see-through glass base, installed above the atrium of the hotel, is a world premier, allowing for abundant daylight in the entire lobby space but also for a unique effect of water lingering, especially at sunset.
However, it is the hotel’s unique blend of contemporary and classic which makes it such a perfect fit with the spirit of Saint Tropez – hip & chic, glamorous, surprising and aristocratic. The classic facade comes in contrast with the contemporary interior signed by famed French interior designer Sybille de Margerie (a Taittinger family member), who was also responsible for Mandarin Oriental in Paris and the Cheval Blanc in Courchevel.
All the furnishings are custom made for the hotel, each detail having been overseen by de Margerie including the sculptural pieces and custom artwork designed specifically for the property, including the huge ball, inspired by marine life and made of small aluminium shells which is hanging in the atrium of the hotel.
Contemporary art is also featured digitally throughout the hotel, with a custom made digital movie depicting swimming jelly fish in different colours – the movie is featured on a dedicated channel on the state-of-the-art back lit SmartTv’s in all the rooms and suites, as well as on the flat screens on each floor, in front of the elevators. The digital movie, a contemporary art installation, is conceived to induce a deep relaxation and reflection mood.
Whether smaller slightly smaller in size, I found entry level rooms equally charming, some even featuring elements which are not included in the larger rooms or suites, such as a set of beautiful hand made crystal chandeliers by local craftsmen. Rooms and suites are abundant in exquisit, luxurious details, rarely found these days even at the highest standard luxury hotels – pure organic towels and bathrobes (the finest cotton I have ever seen and touched), large Italian style showers with manually set mozaics, silk cotton linen by a niche Italian specialist company, a lovely array of colourful pillows with top quality upholstery, perfect sound-proofing and automatically controlled air-conditioning of the latest generation.
When open, later in June, the 450 sqm SPA of the hotel will be one of the most sought after in the entire Saint Tropez with exclusive treatments by My Blend, Clarins’ new luxury SPA concept. The facilities and circular design (like a shell) of the SPA will certainly add a WOW factor. Same for the roof-top lounge and caviar bar, which will undoubtedly become one of THE places to hang out and be seen for an evening cocktail.
