CPP-LUXURY.COM has recently interviewed Klaus Kabelitz a veteran luxury hotelier who was appointed to run Belmond’s latest luxury London hotel, Belmond Cadogan London The property is now owned by Belmond and instead, it is run under a long term third-party management agreement.
What motivated the choice of an iconic location for Belmond Cadogan, within a heritage building and with such lavish gardens? Was this the reason a third party management agreement was accepted? (It is known Belmond owns most of its properties)
75 Sloane Street, an address rich in history and heritage, has played host to socialites, artists and aristocrats throughout history. Belmond Cadogan Hotel is a London legend reborn.
A truly British residence, this iconic location chimes perfectly with the interior vision of the hotel. Every detail weaves the past together with the present; carefully placed antique artefacts sit alongside commissioned modern art and bespoke, handcrafted furnishing.
The surrounding area in Chelsea is a hive of artistic endeavour; it is home to major institutions of contemporary theatre, art and music. The location allows Belmond Cadogan Hotel to embrace this cultural enclave of London with events and activities throughout the seasons.
Cadogan Place Gardens, located opposite the hotel are tucked away from the busy city streets, also provide the perfect spot to unwind with a hotel picnic or a game of tennis. Each of our properties are defined by authentic designs that stand the test of time; classical and elegant they must embrace the unique personality of their destination. Exemplifying these characteristics, the Cadogan property is just right for our portfolio – and we are excited to offer luxury travellers the opportunity to enjoy this stylish retreat in the heart of Chelsea.
Belmond Cadogan Hotel will be our first hotel under management in the flagship European city of London. We are delighted to be the trusted partner of the Cadogan Estate, who recognise Belmond for its world-class management platform, underpinned by a brand that has strong market-place recognition among discerning luxury travellers worldwide.

Belmond hotels must offer guests an experience that stays with them long after they return home.
Positioned at the forefront of luxury, Belmond is the enduring symbol of enriching travel experiences. Belmond Cadogan Hotel combines transformational experience through travel, food, craftsmanship and design.
At the Adam Handling Chelsea restaurant, Chef Patron Adam Handling serves up traditional dishes using modern recipes. In the open kitchen with chefs’ tables and bar seating, guests can observe our talented chefs at work as they add the final flourishes to a range of dishes such as Highland Wagyu Beef with short rib and butter-poached King Crab.
Another central part of the Belmond Cadogan’s identity is its timeless design and craftsmanship. The Belmond Cadogan opened with over 400 pieces of original artwork by predominantly British artists – including a painting by Simon Casson, taking pride of place in the hotel lobby and depicting the history of Cadogan Estates. Design details rendered through expert craftsmanship pay homage to former patrons, including Oscar Wilde and Lillie Langtry, and celebrate the building’s quirky, rich history.
To ensure that our designs continue to capture the imagination of tomorrow’s discerning traveller, we are committed to uncovering the next generation of talented designers. Through our partnership with New Designers, Belmond is working with up-and-coming designers Mac Collins and Toni Packman, who will bring their creative visions to life at the Belmond Cadogan.
We are transcending the traditional confines of travel by bringing together craftsmanship, design and gastronomy – creating new adventures for guests to experience.
