What is the context of the Beijing luxury hotel market especially with the arrival of new hotels such as Bulgari Beijing and the renovation of The Peninsula.
With more and more new luxury hotels opening in Beijing, it will enhance this segment of the market overall and I believe this is a great opportunity for each one to emphasize its own unique character and deliver impeccable service that will further enhance Beijing’s hospitality reputation. Tell us more about your positioning and your comp set.
We place ourselves in the top tier of the luxury hotel market. This is evident in Rosewood’s existing properties worldwide and the reputations and awards that they have rightfully earned.
We differ from other luxury hotels here in Beijing in that our design and décor is of a more contemporary, residential nature versus the more traditional hotel look and feel. Guests will feel more at home, more in touch with the locale and experience the warmth of traditional Chinese hospitality.
We carefully select and train our people so they can excel in their positions and that translates to superlative service for our guests.
What is the profile of your customer? (nationality, age etc) – in general terms
60% domestic and 40% international traveler. We are addressing a sophisticated group that not only enjoys an environment that is filled with art and culture, but sees it as an inspiration to create.
They are people who appreciate quality of life and are part of networks of people who love art and culture in all their forms. Another category is made up of “affluential explorers.” These are people for whom luxury is a given, but they are primarily driven by their desire for authentic experiences when they travel and a sense of place in where they stay.
We also cater to professionals (high-end business travelers including the finance and banking set) as well as celebrities
You have probably one of the most complex F&B offerings among all the luxury hotels in Beijing. Tell us more

Rosewood Hotels are known for their approach to innovation. What is your take on this?
Rosewood’s guiding concept is A Sense of Place® in which each hotel reflects its location’s culture, history and sensibilities and Rosewood Beijing is no exception; that is the core foundation for all that we innovate. From a design point of view, the hotel blends cultural touchstones, architectural traditions and contemporary style to reflect the history, art and vibrancy of Beijing.
We highly value the arts – Emily de Wolfe Pettit was invited to curate the collection, with art pieces carefully chosen to subtly convey the essence of the location. We also have a crossover with artistic lifestyle brands (Wan Bao Bao Fine Jewelry afternoon tea, and Norlha pop up store.)
With over 820 square meters of space, the Manor Club features a pool table and an informal bar counter in a casual, intimate and cozy atmosphere, and offers a true 24 / 7 services. There is also the Pavilion – an elegant, residential-style venue with private entrance, dining area, bar, lounges and show kitchens, all furnished and accessorised as in an elegant, private home.
Which do you consider as the disruptors of nowadays? Most luxury hotel markets are challenged by Airbnb.
Travelers have many choices amongst luxury hotels, affordable hotels and Airbnb.
