Internationally renowned French Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is to open a new restaurant at The Connaught, Mayfair in Spring 2017.
The restaurant, name yet to be confirmed, will be located at the front of the hotel with its sweeping views over Mount Street in the space currently located by Espelette. Hélène Darroze will continue to operate her celebrated two-Michelin star restaurant on the other side of the hotel.
It will be a relaxed, informal style neighbourhood restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. The restaurant will be designed by architect John Heah who has recently completed highly acclaimed work at The Berkeley.
This move marks a return to the Maybourne Hotel Group fold for Vongerichten, who previously operated the legendary Vong restaurant at The Berkeley which closed at the end of 2002. Vongerichten currently operates some of New York’s leading restaurants including the eponymous Jean-Georges, ABC Kitchen and The Mercer Kitchen.
Commentating on his opening at The Connaught , Vongerichten said, “I am excited to make my return to London, one of the most vibrant and dynamic food destinations in the world and I hope to create a new restaurant at The Connaught that reflects both my signature farm to table cooking style but with a few surprises. The Connaught was the first London hotel I ever stayed in and continues to hold a special place in my heart.’’
Massimiliano Binda, The Connaught’s General Manager said, “The Connaught has always had a distinguished and celebrated culinary history, and we believe that Jean-Georges with his forward thinking vision will add something special to the hotel and together with Hélène Darroze create an unbeatable double act in the heart of Mayfair.”
