Jumby Bay Island (Oetker Collection), the exclusive, private island resort located just off the coast of Antigua, is reopening following its annual 6-week closure with a number of new initiatives and collaborations including: the Jumby Bay Sailing Academy for beginners and experienced sailors, new bespoke backgammon boards for the Estate House created by Alexandra Llewelyn, steel drum master classes and a fully functioning organic farm and kitchen garden.
In addition to these new experiences, Jumby Bay Island is pleased to announce a partnership with acclaimed fashion designer Emilia Wickstead, who has created the wardrobes for all female associates at the Estate House. Emilia has taken her inspiration from the signature elements of the historic Estate House and the new fixtures that fill the space, including woven and textured fabrics, leather upholstery, hand crafted china and paintings by local artists in vibrant shades of blues and greens, reflecting the islands landscape. This partnership and collaboration marks Emilia’s first hotel venture outside of the UK.
Jumby Bay Island Sailing Academy
The Jumby Bay Island Sailing Academy is available for beginners and experienced sailors. The Academy takes full advantage of Jumby Bay Island’s unique setting of strong trade winds and calm seas that make for excellent sailing. The island’s fleet ranges from junior and adult single-handler sailboats through to 24ft Elite keelboats and performance catamarans. The RS Elite keelboats are a modern classic, offering the stability and security of a yacht, striking America’s Cup style lines and fast and responsive sailing for crews of up to four adults. Jumby Bay Island will host weekly races as well as group excursions and sailing games for all guests.
Bespoke backgammon and gaming boards created British Designer, Alexandra Llewellyn
Jumby Bay Island has partnered with British designer Alexandra Llewellyn to create a custom-made Jumby Bay backgammon board and games tables for the Estate House Restaurant & Bar. Guests having a meal or an informal drink will be able to play on the boards at any time in the Estate House. These will reflect Jumby Bay life and will feature the iconic sheep and marine life as well as colourful semi-precious stones for the playing pieces
Steel Drum Master Class
Guests of Jumby Bay Island who want to learn a bit of West Indian culture can enjoy private steel drum lessons with a local musician. The island has a long history of immersing guests in island traditions and activities, from cricket to storytelling but music is at the heart of the West Indies and the best memory to take home is a new skill, which can be perfected during daily classes.
Jumby Bay Organic Farm and Kitchen Garden
Accessible by a footpath, Jumby Bay’s Organic Farm and Kitchen Garden encompasses a verdant vegetable garden, herb garden, and orchard. The farm’s produce including rocket, cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplant, spinach, avocado, sweet peppers, as well as green and purple kale, is used to supplement the menu at The Estate House, as part of the daily ‘Jumby Grown’ specials. The farm also boasts a number of local and tropical fruits, including watermelon, tangerines, raspberries, starfruit, cherries, breadfruit, and guavas. The farm’s separate herb garden offers dill, chives, cilantro, parsley, tarragon, peppermint, lemon grass, rosemary, thyme, and mint, as well as several varieties of basil, including lemon, sweet, and spicy.
In addition to being a peaceful retreat for guests to explore and relax, the farm also offers unique programs and activities for the guests, including farm tours, gardening classes and private farm to table dinners.
Private Yacht Charters
Yennecot is Jumby Bay’s luxury yacht anchored in the island’s harbour, ready to whisk guests away into the Caribbean Sea at a moment’s notice. With a dedicated captain and crew, guests can charter Yennecot for private day trips, romantic sunset cruises or even a tour of the main island. Picnic baskets filled with gourmet food and chilled rosé are at guests’ disposal for a truly memorable experience.
Private Picnic on Pasture Bay Beach
Pasture Bay Beach is a secluded area located on the Atlantic side of Jumby Bay, nestled between some of the most beautiful private homes on the island. Exuding peace and tranquillity, Pasture Bay Beach is sought out by couples and families seeking relaxation and a private dining experience to remember. No matter the request, guests will find a basket that has been custom-packed with their favourites waiting at the beach upon their arrival.
Rum History & Tasting
Rum is more than just a staple to the relaxed Caribbean lifestyle – it is a multi-layered sensory experience. Fully appreciating fine aged rum requires use of three senses: sight, smell and taste. Jumby Bay offers guests immersive experiences in the art of rum tasting, from nosing to sipping, with expert insight from the resort’s food and beverage team.
