JW Marriott unveiled last month in Madrid its first property in Spain, setting new standards for the luxury brand which is part of Marriott International. JW Marriott Madrid enjoys an exceptional location within an exquisitely renovated heritage building, right in the heart of Madrid, in the prestigious Canalejas area, next to the iconic, dynamic, and bustling Puerta del Sol – within walking distance to most attractions.
What used to be one of the oldest perfumeries in Madrid (Álvarez Gómez), the building itself has a unique legacy and captures the very essence of the city. The building’s history is reflected through the preservation of specific elements, such as the wrought iron columns from the 19th century which can be found throughout the property or one of the staircases of the building. The lobby has a dedicated area which resembles more of a library, paying homage to the history of the place.
With an abundance of daylight and a selection of superb natural materials, especially wood, the interior design of the hotel is elegant, warm and relaxing, with utmost attention having been paid to the quality of finishes and aesthetic details such as lighting. The public spaces are welcoming but also lend a sense of prestige and luxury – ideally complementing the exceptional choice of location.
The hotel succeeds in recreating a true urban sanctuary. Every detail of the hotel is curated to encourage guests to reflect and recharge. Whether it’s soaking in the views of the city from the privacy of one’s terrace, enjoying the intimacy of the private Spa or sipping on a bespoke cocktail, mindful moments can be found and created anywhere. There is also a large gym open 24 hours, private spa service for two and yoga equipment in each room.
Besides the exceptional terraces, most rooms and suites feature state-of-the-art bathrooms, many of them with natural light and oversized showers, which make-up a Spa like space. Beds are exceptionally comfortable, with a choice of luxurious high-thread linen. Accommodations are most serene, with impeccable soundproofing. Technology such as AC and smartTvs are of top hospitality standards. Functionality and comfort are superlative, too – worthy of a high calibre luxury hotel.
Madrid’s essence is tied closely to its history and the evocative aromas of violets, tuberoses, carnations, and roses that fill the city. JW Marriott Hotel Madrid has collaborated with the Spanish Academy of Perfume, paying tribute to the building’s unique heritage and the city’s sensuous past, to create a fully holistic wellness experience that stimulates the senses. It also lends the hotel a unique identity.
Partnering with renowned, Michelin-star Chef Mario Sandoval, the property has crafted a dining and cocktail concept that elevates and subtly reinvents local flavor. Using ingredients grown in the JW Garden and sourced from local providers, ‘QU’ offers the ultimate expression in refined Spanish flavor. Visitors can sip and savor the city’s spirit through an inventive cocktail menu that highlights local ingredients and iconic aromas such as chocolate, rosemary, and lemon.
In less than two weeks from opening, the hotel delivered impressive service standards, especially considering the challenges of staffing and recruitment. The team was already quite well bonded and motivated, with an eagerness to please guests and deliver most genuine service. Service was intuitive, welcoming and appreciative, with a great sense of enthusiasm especially considering the very recent opening.
