Karl Lagerfeld has partnered with G-III Apparel for the development of its eponymous brand in U.S. and Canada. Through the joint venture, G-III Apparel will control 49% and will be develop and manage the Karl Lagerfeld stores and will be in charge with wholesale. The launch of Karl Lagerfeld in the U.S. is planned for Spring 2016. G-III will have exclusive rights for all Karl Lagerfeld products except eyewear, fragrances, cosmetics as well as watches and jewelry, categories will continue to be managed by Karl Lagerfeld directly.
The joint venture also has an exclusive license to use the Karl Lagerfeld brand for consumer products and clothing in Mexico. G-III, which has a 49 percent stake in the joint venture, has received a five-year license for women’s clothing, women’s handbags and men’s outwear. The license has two renewals of five years each. The joint venture expects to give G-III and possibly other companies licenses for additional product categories over time.
