Sophisticated and at the same time understated, L’Ermitage is the ideal choice for the most discerning travellers looking for the utmost relaxed and ”not to be seen” in the heart of Beverly Hills. Privacy and warmth attract both corporate and leisure guests, with a great mix of foreigners and locals.
From arrival to front office, concierge and housekeeping, I could not seize but be amazed by the synchronized service which the team extends in the most natural way and with an ease which exudes a great team spirit. Rarely have I experienced such a homogeneous team which so proudly displayed their appreciation and joy of working for the hotel – a sense of respect which is so rare this days, when the rate of turnover of staff is so high.
Although not renovated in a decade, the hotel facilities are very well kept. L’Ermitage boasts the largest rooms in Beverly Hills among all major luxury properties, with a minimum of 675 square feet. Most rooms feature balconies with sweeping views of the city of Beverly Hills and Hollywood – rooms facing the city offer the best views! The Sycamore paneling and maple wood furnishings exude a subtle fusion of Asian and European style.
My room, a Beverly Hills Suite, featured a large living room and separate bedroom, each with its very own fully equipped marble bathroom, both with separate walk in shower and bathtubs, with Acqua di Parma set of amenities. The suite also had two large flat screen TV & CD/DVD player with Bose speakers. Among the exceptional features of the rooms: top quality linen and a ultra comfortable beds, complimentary wi-fi at a high speed and complimentary Fiji water daily.
One of the highlights of the hotel is the fine dining Livello Restaurant, with abundant day light (two storey glass windows) a subtly manicured garden setting, with a fireplace and a waterfall. For all meals of the day, Livello features a gourmet menu which focuses on home made quality food (I loved my diner style omlette for breakfast). Chef Joseph Elevado, trained by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, successfully blends Asian and Italian cuisine, with a Japanese twist. Food is exceptional throughout all outlets of the hotel – lobby bar and swimming pool, as well as room service.
Concierges are providing expert service – efficient, predictive and very very fast! For instance, on a bespoke Hollywood tour with the hotel car, I would coordinate meeting points (parking can be a challenge) with the driver by emailing the Concierge from my Blackberry. As my tour progressed, they would also make additional suggestions according to the attractions I had been seeking to experience. From booking a table at one of the best restaurants in the city, Concierge are the perfect ”personal shopper”, knowing the best spots for the most exclusive boutiques. For those with at least half a day spare time, I would definitely reccommend of the beautiful Californian beaches, some of the best, within less than 40 minutes drive from the hotel.
When the hotel undergoes the much needed renovation of its facilities, especially carpets, curtains and furniture both in rooms and public spaces, L’Ermitage will only re-inforce its lead position among luxury hotels in Beverly Hills and at the same time, will instantly become the Viceroy Hotel Group’s flagship property. Room for improvement: air-conditioning controls, more greenery and an improved landscaping for the roof top pool and a more natural bathroom amenities line.
