Titled “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez — Louis Vuitton,” the showcase is to trace the brand’s journey from historic trunk-maker, founded in 1854, to the modern luxury giant it has become. Vuitton’s chief executive officer Michael Burke said Saillard, chief curator at the Palais Galliera fashion museum, immersed himself in Vuitton’s archives to “decode its secrets” and deliver a “fresh vision of our past, present and future.”
Spread across nine rooms of the palace’s Salon d’Honneur, with set design by Robert Carsen, the exhibition is to cover classic and eccentric trunks, the evolution of travel, craftsmanship and Vuitton’s modern guise, spanning ready-to-wear and luggage for modern celebrities.
Vuitton has historic links to the Grand Palais, built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900, which attracted 48 million people, with George Vuitton overseeing its travel and leather goods section.
The new Louis Vuitton exhibit which was curated by Olivier Saillard is set to open Dec. 4 and run through Feb. 21, 2016, at the Grand Palais in Paris, which is to debut Picasso and Fragonard exhibitions this fall.
