Louis Vuitton and Hermes are expected to open new stores at Istanbul Grand Airport, the third airport of the city which was inaugurated on October 29. This will be the fifth store of Louis Vuitton in Istanbul, the other 4 being located downtown and within shopping centres. Hermes will open at Istanbul Grand Airport its third store in Turkey, the other two operating at Istinye and Emmar Square Malls.
The airport management formed a partnership with the world’s biggest Duty Free operator Heinemann and Unifree in an area of 55,000 square meters.
The new airport, the third in Istanbul after the already serving Atatürk and Sabiha Gökçen airports, has caused much controversy because of concerns about its impact on the environment, workers’ rights, strong wind in the area, and commuting issues. In fact, the airport is not too far from the city center as widely claimed. A trip to the airport from the centre at rush hour takes 45 minutes.
