The Cheval Blanc Hotel Collection is defined as an “experiential luxury” under the dedicated LVMH Hotel Management division. Tell us more about your definition of luxury in hospitality nowadays.
Cheval Blanc has been offering contemporary and refined hospitality for over 12 years. Cheval Blanc is outstanding in its customised approach to services, which are tailored to suit the individual needs and expectations of each guest.
Your four properties are often described as ‘ultra-luxury’. What is their competitive advantage? Could we compare the French Palace distinction to a five star ranked property?
Cheval Blanc is based on four core values, the sum of which is unique in the world of hospitality. Craftsmanship, with a sense of detail pushed to extremes. Exclusive privacy, because the number of rooms is purposefully kept to a minimum in order to feel like in a house. Creativity, which means that traditional codes are reinterpreted with boldness and modernity. And finally, the Art de Recevoir and its thoughtful approach to service, which gives a unique character to each stay.
LVMH Hotel Management is pleased to have been awarded the Palace Distinction for both Cheval Blanc Courchevel and Cheval Blanc Saint-Barth Isle de France.
This honour, awarded by the French tourism development agency ‘ATOUT France’, recognises the quality of customer service and the unique experience that Cheval Blanc Courchevel and Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France provides for their guests: an unparalleled savoir-faire service approach that delivers a sense of authenticity and utter personalisation for every guest stay at the Maisons.
Unlike Courchevel and Randheli, for the Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France project you rethought an existing property. Tell us more.
LVMH bought the Isle de France Hotel, in 2013, upgraded it in 2014 into the Cheval Blanc Collection, and got the only Palace distinction outside Metropolain France in 2016.
Cheval Blanc St Barth Isle de France is known for its attention to detail and impeccable service. Keeping in line with the heritage, the new architectural concept by French designer Jacques Grange, has allowed us to offer more of the Cheval Blanc values of excellence. We believe that our Maisons has to evolve in order to affirm our singularity and position. Today Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France offers their guests a contemporary Maison which has traditional Cheval Blanc touches and reflects the sublime lifestyle and discrete charm of the island of St. Barthelemy.
How important was the reputation and success of Cheval Blanc Courchevel for defining the DNA of the Cheval Blanc Collection?
Cheval Blanc Courchevel was the first Maison which opened in 2006 and has anchored and illustrated the values of the brand.
It proves determination to offer contemporary and refined hospitality that presents an entirely new concept of high-end luxury hotels. Attention to details, an environment where artpieces are part of the place, and a large creativity field for the craftsmanship in order to deliver excellence.
Cheval Blanc Courchevel runs its DNA, in line with the core values of the LVMH Group : Maisons stimulated by creativity and excellence.
Does your ownership by the world’s leading luxury group, LVMH, create higher expectations for your hotels?
LVMH is the world’s leader luxury group and it maintains its position in the industry, by keeping in line with its long-term vision of building on the heritage of the Maison’s and stimulating creativity and excellence. The expectations of Cheval Blanc are completely in line with the expectation of the group and therefore expectations remain the same across the portfolio.
To what extent your cross-marketing and collaborations extend between the various brands of LVMH? For example, would you consider for future projects that your interiors be executed, in part, by Loro Piana?
We definitely work alongside our “sister brands” in the portfolio where we can; for example, for the last couple of years, Cheval Blanc Randheli has been partnering with Hublot to create a bespoke watch which encompasses the ‘art de vivre’. This year’s watch was a collaboration with Parisian artist Vincent Beaurin and the Hublot watch was inspired by the warm colours of the island. All our spas are operated by Guerlain, whilst the Cheval Blanc Randheli Private Island showcases Loro Piana goods and Cheval Blanc Courchevel lobby has presentation of Louis Vuitton accessories.
Bulgari Hotels & Resorts are indirectly also part of LVMH ownership and the chain hotels are most often the venue for events and marketing activities of the BVLGARI brand, including jewellery, watches, accessories and perfumery. Will Cheval Blanc Hotel Paris feature Louis Vuitton events?
As with all our Cheval Blanc Maison’s we work alongside the LVMH brands and this will be the case with Paris too.
What are the updates you can share about the long delayed Cheval Blanc Samaritaine hotel project in Paris?
We are aiming for the hotel to open in Q1 2020.
Your latest opening was in 2014. What are your expansion plans? Do you consider third party management projects, or your strategy is to have full control which also involves ownership?
Since its acquisition in 2016 by LVMH Hotel Management, La Résidence de la Pinède has undergone a major evolution — in its architecture, design, and bespoke services — that made possible for it to join the collection of Cheval Blanc Maison’s and to fulfil a commitment to these values: Creativity, Exclusivity, Savoir Faire, and Art de Recevoir.
Cheval Blanc St-Tropez will become the fourth Cheval Blanc Maison, after Cheval Blanc Courchevel, which opened in 2006; Cheval Blanc Randheli in the Maldives in 2013; and Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France in the Caribbean in 2014.
Cheval Blanc is an evolving and growing brand but we are mindful that the expansion is in line with our core values. Our main focus currently is Paris, which will be our first urban resort.
Beyond the most luxurious interiors and facilities, customer service standards are not only important to achieve but also to maintain their consistency. Tell us about your approach
Cheval Blanc ensures that all its guests feel at home through our bespoke approach and attention to detail. We are always striving to offer exceptional services to create our guests their best memories with friends and family.
