The new Off-White store in Tokyo at Ginza Six occupies a 79 sqm. (850 sq.ft.) corner unit on the third floor, rubbing shoulders with retail spaces of peers from fashion’s upper echelon, such as Marni, Lucien Pellat-Finet, MM6 and Rick Owens.
The interior design is a collaboration between Off-White creative director Virgil Abloh, architect James Wines of architecture and environmental arts studio SITE, and architects Suzan Wines and Azin Valy of multi-disciplinary firm I-Beam, all based in New York City.
Based on Abloh’s so-called warehouse minimalism, a self-coined architectural style which places equal emphasis on the implication of building and the suggestion of un-building, the store is demarcated by an unfinished wall of bricks stamped with the Off-White name and exposed welded wire, all dipped in a fittingly off-white hue. The brick aesthetic extends inside, covering not only walls, but is also used as furnishings and fixtures.
Additional spatial elements include added units made of steel rebar and truss reinforcements. The new Off-White store carries menswear collections, and will carry seasonal lineups, special releases and exclusive local drops.
