The warmth of the sun on a January morning…the sound of exotic birds…a walk on the hot fine sand of a private and secluded beach with the most clear blue water…a spectacular marble pool with tall palm trees and largest sun beds…discreet voices in the background…an idyllic SPA…the view of skyscrapers in the distance… Yes, this is Dubai! But it is the one Dubai at the only ONE & ONLY Resort recently opened on the manmade Palm just outside ‘’new Dubai’’.
Just when you thought you have experienced all there is about Dubai, the sky slopes at the Emirates Mall, the huge aquarium at Dubai Mall, the souks, the Dubai Marina, the fine restaurants, the Burj Al Arab and the highest tower in the world at Burj Khalifah, the One & Only Resort Hotel will not only blow you off your feet but change your perception of Dubai indefinitely.
The fact that the resort has under 100 rooms and suites ensures the most personalized service of the highest standards. Service is intuitive, warm and genuine, with the most unusual or the most simple demands fulfilled, sometimes in seconds, making you feel taken care of. The same level of service is provided throughout the hotel, from the dining outlets, to front office, concierge, SPA and guest relations.
I have stayed at other luxury hotels in Dubai, however, the One & Only The Palm has the largest rooms and suites by far, with the smallest rooms averaging 60 sqm. Bathrooms resemble a mini SPA within the comfort of your own room, with a large dressing area, separate glass enclosed rain shower, make up table and an impressive free standing bathtub in the middle of the bathroom, which is separated by the room by two large sliding doors which can be fully opened. Luxury French Ex Voto toiletries and amenties are ambder scented creating a very relaxed mood. Be sure to try their exquisite bath salts and the light hydrating body lotion. The marble and the woodwork will impress you in the quality of finishes and details.
The rooms are comfortable, warm and cosy, with a very strong residential feel, so that I even thought of how it would be to live in such a place, of course a dream…All rooms have large balconies with very nice views – be sure you ask for a room with a Dubai sky line view or a view of the pool and Jumeirah, which are the best. The moorish oriental décor is present throughout the rooms, with soft beige and light brown colours. A very well equipped and comfortable business desk is ideal for business travellers, who will also benefit from complimentary wireless internet throughout the hotel. The quality of the furniture and the wood finishes in the rooms as well as lounge and the lobby areas of the villas and mansions are truly impressive. It is rare to see such a level of quality in new hotels these days.
The hotel library lounge is a perfect spot for holding a private meeting or catching up on work on your IPAD or laptop…(do not even think you will be able to work by the pool or on the terrace, where you would feel ‘’obliged’’ to enjoy the sun. The entire hotel so quiet that you will feel embarrassed speaking loudly on your mobile, therefore, better put it on vibrating or silent mode.
The private beach is one of the highlights of the hotel, whether you are enjoying a romantic moment or just simply relaxing alone or with friends. A walk on the edge of the crystal clear water was the most memorable moment of my entire stay, a moment I shall always remember and make me want to come back and enjoy it, almost like the feeling when you want to go back and visit your birth place.
The SPA which is run by British specialist ESPA is flawless with a wide range of treatments, from facials, to massages, from timed treatments to whole day programs. I have tried the Executive De-Stress massage and it made me feel very relaxed, yet toned at the same time. My suggestion: book before your arrival and schedule your treatment for the first day of your stay, as this will give you a perfect ‘’reset’’ for the rest of your stay.
Adorned by tall palm trees, the all marble swimming pool provides oversized sun beds as well as the very chic Emanuel chairs which are featured on most of the hotel’s marketing materials. Eight private beach cabanas are available for day use and they provide a private air-conditioning relaxation space, with comfortable couches and a large LCD tv. These are ideal for guests who prefer privacy and for those very hot and humid days of the Dubai summers.
The hotel offers three dining facilities under the close supervision of award winning chefs. The menus are not only creative but also very fulfilling, whether on a relaxed, casual dinner or lunch or whether on a more formal occasion. Try the ”STAY” by Michelin starred Yannick Alleno restaurant which provides a very luxurious and private atmosphere and the ”101” relaxed dining on the marina of the hotel, ideal for lunch and dinner (very romantic !)
All in all, the One & Only The Palm is the perfect base for your trips to Dubai, regardless of the occasion or purpose. It is one of those places you easily fall in love but harder to forget or separate from.
