Following a careful documentation and gathering formal and informal quotes, none of Qatar’s investment vehicles has confirmed any interest or even relationship with The Ritz Paris which has been owned Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed.
The General Manager position has recently taken over of long time experience luxury hotelier Marc-Olivier Raffray – his most recent position being that of Managing Director. Former Ritz Paris GM, Christian Boyens has joined LVMH Hospitality, presently in charge with opening new Cheval Blanc Hotels, first in Paris (April 2020) followed by London, late 2020.
In France, Qatar’s Katara Hospitality controls: a majority stake in The Peninsula Paris, Le Royal Monceau Raffles, Buddha Bar Paris and Le Grand Intercontinental. Constellation Holding (also Qatar) owns Hotel du Louvre, Martinez Cannes, Hotel du Palais Biarritz- all Unbound Collection by Hyatt and Carlton InterContinental Cannes. In France, Qatari Diar fully owns Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel. Qatar’s other hotel investment company Al Rayyan (Artic) has no investments in France.
Timing may also be a key factor, considering Paris’ luxury hotel sector has been experiencing very challenging times, with lower occupancies, lower ADRs as well a market saturation.
