In a recent interview to the Italian media, Roberto Cavalli expressed his view on ways to fight the current crisis. One of his solutions is to produce more affordable apparel with good quality fabrics. Ironically, the master of all golden and sparking fashions, Cavalli advises a more subdued, classical approach to design. Cavalli is one of the Italian maisons heavily affected by the international crisis, relying currently on the sales of its diffussion line licenced to Ittierre Group. Roberto Cavalli also announced the option to sell 30% to an investment fund controlled by Claudio Sposito by 31st of May. He also advised he was no longer sure whether he wanted to sell his company.
We, at CPP, believe Cavalli will only survive provided they find an equity partner which would allow them to take control of their Just Cavalli line, much as Dolce Gabbana has done when cancelling licensing agreement with Ittierre.
