Samsonite reports first quarter 2017 turnover of $ 733.5 million, up 29.3% (at constant exchange rates) over the same period of 2016. The business benefited from the acquisition of Tumi in August 2016. The acquisition of Tumi has led to an increase of sales of 46.4% (-0.9% excluding Tumi) in North America, + 26.4% performance in Europe (+ 13.4% excluding Tumi), while in Asia the group grew by 18% (+ 4.3% without Tumi).
The new brand in the quarter registered $ 135.8 million in turnover (+ 14.6%). The Italian market contributes to consolidated revenues of $ 15 million, + 10.8% (excluding Tumi), supported by the direct channel (+ 17%), Chic Accent’s contribution (+ 17%) and By e-commerce (+ 70%).
Last March, Tumi Srl was established, with the aim of managing and developing the retail business in Italy. Samsonite is also investing in online sales with the acquisition of eBags – one of the major online retailers of travel bags and accessories in the United States – finalized on May 5.
