Sofitel Opera Frankfurt, the undisputed leading luxury hotel in Frankfurt (REVIEW)

The 400 square-metre SPA has a sauna, steam bath and a 25-metre indoor pool that belongs to the adjacent Fitness First Black Label Club, but is directly connected via the hotel’s spa area. Several treatment rooms offer a variety of different massages and beauty treatments that use high-quality French products by Carita and Décleor. Staff are highly skills and experienced, performing a wide range of treatments both body and facial.

The main restaurant, Schönemann—named after Goethe’s lover Lili Schönemann boasts an airy space with lots of natural light from square and Operafacing windows and a menu that spans schnitzel, beef bourgignon, foie gras, steaks and a coq au vin made with apple wine, plus salads and soups. The selection of wine is impressive. Do not miss desert! Service is warm, intuitive and extremely efficient.

The baroque Lili’s bar, which has poetry on the ceiling, opulent pillars and a generous menu of club sandwiches, ravioli, steaks and a range of exquisitely-mixed cocktails and fine wines, plus Le Goûter coffee and French pastries in the afternoon. Lili’s Bar is a meeting point not only for hotel residents but also locals. The team at Lili’s Bar will go out of their way to fulfil the wishes of the most discerning guests. I could tell there are house guests, patrons who return frequently. It is an ideal mix which will make you feel like you belong.

Rooms and suites are among the largest in Frankfurt and even larger than most other Sofitel properties I have stayed and reviewed. Accommodations are cozy, warm and homey, with a mix of beautiful pastels, dominated by beige, grey and plum. Lacquered wood, thick doors, floor to ceiling windows, the Sofitel MyBed – are among the many exceptional luxury details of all rooms and suites. Bedding featured the finest quality high-thread satin linen with ultra comfortable pillows – a menu is available.

Regardless of the positioning within the hotel but also regardless of the views, all accommodations are serene with impeccable soundproofing both indoor and outdoor. AC heats or warms the room in seconds, with a quiet option. I was fortunate to experience a Prestige Suite with panoramic views of the park and the city skyline in the backdrop. The large screen SmartTV was enclosed in an elegant lacquered wood cabinet, concealing it when closed. Mini-bar items were all complimentary.

Bathrooms are large, most of them with separate glass-enclosed walk-in shower and a separate bathtub. You will appreciate the custom made Diptyque bathroom amenities, all in large fixed recipients aimed at reducing plastic waste. Shower water pressure is perfect and the separate spaces for him and her add to the overall comfort. Bathrooms in suites are even larger, resembling more of a private Spa. Housekeeping, like most departments, is flawless!
