Few luxury hotels in Rome command a location like Splendide Royal Roma, with stunning panoramic views of the city overlooking the Borghese gardens. There is a sense of majestic grandeur that allows for a most authentic experience of Rome, while being in the heart of the city and at the same time extending a sense of tranquility and serenity. The views from the rooftop bar and the Mirabelle restaurant are simply breathtaking.
After two years of the pandemic and a long closure, Splendide Royal Roma makes a strong come-back and rebound, exceeding expectations especially at a service level, which remains a challenge to this day for many luxury hotels. The strength of the Naldi family who privately own the hotel shines through more than ever, with many long term staff having remained loyal to the hotel even after these very challenging times.
Service is most genuine and attentive with a great sense of confidence which makes one not only being taken care of but also in ‘safe hands’. While being friendly, service also inspires a sense of prestige and belonging. You will feel recognised, appreciated and highly respected. Staff are also highly trained to be intuitive and anticipating of the demands of the most discerning travellers. Mention must also be made that consistency is at the heart of the appreciation you will feel.
The building where the Splendide Royal hotel stands dates back to the late 1800s and is rich in history that belonged to the noble Ludovisi Boncompagni families, from Bologna origins from which some Popes of the time also descended. The property was a very large estate; the wing where today’s hotel stands was the guesthouse while the actual lobby was the storage of the carriages returning to the palace after the lavish receptions of the nobility at that time.
With the abolition of noble titles during Fascism, the estate changed ownership and was divided into several buildings. Subsequently, the part of the property where the Splendide Royal stands was sold to the community of the Maronites, part of the Catholic Christian church, and became their monastery.
In 2001 Dr Roberto Naldi decided to take and renovate part of the Monastery and give life to the new Splendide Royal hotel in Rome, using the same name from the other hotel of the family located in Lugano which is a Swiss historical monument. Without changing its soul and history, the hotel blends a sublime rococo style in the lobby with a Parisian feel in the style of Louis XVI.
There are also many original elements of the previous era including the majestic Murano glass chandelier used for the Luchino Visconti movie “Il Gattopardo” which furnishes and illuminates since the opening of the hotel the lobby where the reception is located to welcome our guests. The partial renovation process allowed for the expansion of the property with another 16 suites. The façade features a stunning painting which recites a sentence inspired by one of Virgil’s poems and which is also the essence of the new project.
Make sure you ask for a room with a view but also a newly renovated room. The style is contemporary with exquisite classic elements, the focus being the ultimate comfort of guests. The newly renovated rooms and suites are not only generously sized but they are also bright – you will be very impressed with the full marble bathrooms, which are at the same time sleek and warm. Attention to details has preserved basics of luxury hospitality such as strong water pressure. Acqua di Parma amenities and fine thick and plush cotton towels are among the indulging features. Some accommodations also boast a jacuzzi.
The Mirabelle is one of the city’s most elegant roof-garden restaurants, combining exceptional cuisine with the breathtaking views over the Eternal City. Service is flawless! The quality of the ingredients and presentation recreate a truly unique gastronomic experience. Over the years, the restaurant has been building a very solid client based not only among hotel guests but also locals and those who opt for other properties for their stay in Rome
The Adèle Mixology Lounge on the top floor of the hotel is Rome’s quintessential luxury sky-bar, with unparalelled views of the city. The lounge features superb cocktails, with an ideal blend of sophistication and simplicity. Do not miss the sunsets which are spectacular in every way. It is ideal for pre-dinner but also as an experience in itself.
The Roberto Naldi Collection also includes Hotel Mancino 12 in Rome, Splendide Royal in Paris and Splendide Royal in Lugano.
