Located in Brisbane’s trendy Fortitude Valley neighbourhood – a stone’s throw from fashionable bars and restaurants like Eleven Rooftop, Press Club and UP on Constance – The Calile Hotel is already making waves amongst Brisbane’s trendsetting elite as the place to see and be seen at.
The property is managed by TFE Hotels – whose other brands include Vibe, Rendezvouz and Adina – and was designed by Brisbane architects Richards & Spence who focused on blending the hotel into its leafy backdrop.
TFE Hotels Chairman Allan Vidor said The Calile Hotel was the most anticipated hotel opening in Brisbane this year. “It brings together all the best things that Brisbane has to offer – its subtropical climate, a relaxed yet sophisticated setting and an array of forward-thinking fashion boutiques and dining offerings including our new Lobby Bar, all set against the urban streetscape of James Street.”
Heralded as Australia’s first urban resort, the 175-room hotel is a tropical oasis with the all accoutrements of inner city convenience. It continues the white brick fabric and Porphyry paving of the James Street precinct, Brisbane’s modish retail boulevard boasting high-end boutiques, bars and restaurants amid hanging gardens (also designed by local practice Richards & Spence).
Each room’s (including the nine suites) contemporary design draws on natural elements and celebrates the Queensland environment. Marble surfaces in natural pinks, blues and greens meet timber panelling, cork flooring and brass fixtures. It all creates a minimal yet playful look. The curved shapes of the exterior archways are echoed throughout the interior, perhaps most interestingly in the shower walls.
Design inspiration cues include Miami, Palm Springs, Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City. Embracing the Queensland capital’s hot, steamy climate, the great outdoors is welcomed in. Breezy archways and architectural stairwells, open-air corridors, plus rooms with balconies and operable windows flank the focal pool terrace where outdoor dining cabanas surround the al fresco Hellenika restaurant serving modern Greek fare with robust taverna-style flavours.
Gazing indoors, pastel-hued rooms with tactile cork floors, sisal matting and daybeds merge seamlessly with marble-finished en suites. It’s a modern day Babylon
