Located in the heart of Museumplein, home to some of the world’s most famous galleries and museums, the 129 room The Conservatorium Hotel is Amsterdam’s latest luxury hotel, which has been inaugurated this month.
Housed in a turn of the century neo-gothic building that used to function as Amsterdam’s former Sweelinck music school, The Conservatorium Hotel features a wealth of innovations, from the Hots service (dedicated host for each guest, combining concierge and guest relations), all natural to Green Globe, an operational system that enables hotels and travel organizations to minimize their negative environmental impact and waste, increase their usage of renewable energy and raw materials and create a long-term sustainable management scheme. The rooms, all with natural daylight and double glazed windows, range in size from 30 sqm to a spacious 170 sqm.
The Conservatorium Hotel juxtaposes contemporary design with the historic architecture of a building rich with heritage. Interiors are by Piero Lissoni, who brings a signature style of clean lines, demure fabrics and shades of grey that are occasionally dotted by the appearance of bright accents. Contemporary furniture is mixed with classic modernist pieces as well as occasional vintage finds from Asia, all contrasting playfully with the on-going bath of natural daylight throughout the building’s airy spaces.
The Conservatorium features the Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Center, a 1,000 square meter gym, spa, yoga, mediation and healing space. Without comparison in Amsterdam and of a truly world-class standard, the Lissoni-designed Akasha offers pioneering treatments, a watsu pool, hammam, stunning studios for pilates, yoga, tai-chi and meditation, a fully-equipped gym, 18m by 5m lap pool and organic bar.
The Conservatorium Hotel is part of a new international luxury hotel group, The Set Hotels, comprising The Conservatorium Hotel, Musemplein, Amsterdam, The Cafe Royal, Regent Street, London (opening June 2012) and Hotel Lutetia, Rive Gauche, Paris (coming soon).
