South-east Asia will be welcoming its first Waldorf Astoria property on August 30th 2018. The luxury brand of Hilton will make its regional debut with the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok in the vibrant Thai capital, in the heart of the bustling Ratchaprasong intersection.
“Bangkok today is one of the most exciting cities in Asia, and fitting for the launch of the Waldorf Astoria in South-east Asia. And the location we have at the boulevard is one of the greatest locations in the city,” said Daniel Welk, vice president of operations, luxury and lifestyle, Hilton, Asia Pacific, on the side of ILTM Asia Pacific 2018 in Singapore.
The highly anticipated Waldorf Astoria Bangkok which features 171-key luxury hotel is designed by award-winning architect Andre Fu who describes the spirit of the project as “[his] personal interpretation and celebration of the iconic Waldorf legacy but in a way that is relevant to Bangkok today”.
Subtle touches of Thai motifs are infused throughout the lavish accommodations, public and event spaces and thoughtful amenities.
General manager Simeon Olle said the hotel has already recruited 350 staff ahead of the grand opening, which was postponed from last year.Mr Olle said the hotel will focus on two markets. The first is international visitors, particularly from China, Hong Kong, the US, Australia and Singapore. The second is local clients seeking venues for weddings, training courses, dining and other private functions.
“With only 171 rooms, the hotel is not aiming for the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions business,” Mr Olle said. “But we will provide guests personalised service with our strong, iconic…
In tribute to the owners of the property, Magnolia Finest Corporation Limited, the mixed-use building – comprising the hotel and private residences across 57 floors – has been designed to give the effect of springing from the ground like a Magnolia flower, while cutting a dramatic profile in the city skyline.
In line with Waldorf Astoria’s culinary heritage – the brand has been credited with inventing the classic Waldorf salad and eggs benedict – Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is similarly primed to be a dining destination.
Acclaimed chef Rungthiwa Chummongkhon, or Chef Fae, will bring her experience of working at Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe to helm Front Room, a restaurant at Waldorf Astoria Bangkok featuring an elegant and exotic blend of Nordic-Thai flavours.
“Waldorf Astoria is an iconic brand but it’s always been a pioneer of culture throughout the years,” remarked Welk. “For us it’s about focusing on being pioneers of the future; being relative; and providing that unforgettable guest experience for the modern luxury traveller today.”
Adding that pioneering touch are the three destination dining concepts, which sit on the top three floors – level 55 to 57 – of the property and are designed byNew York-headquartered design and concept firm, AvroKO.
The 80-seater Bull & Bear specialises in grilled meats and seafood; while The Champagne Bar is an exclusive and intimate 34-seater space that features a standout Champagne collection and handcrafted cocktails. At The Loft, you can’t miss the statement spiral staircase which leads to a delightful artist studio-like space housing artisanal spirits and cocktails.
Waldorf Astoria Bangkok also offers dedicated events and function spaces including the 730-sqm Magnolia Ballroom and eight meeting rooms ranging from 20 to 490 sqm.
