Located in the heart of Bucharest’s Old Town, The Marmorosch (Autograph Collection) is housed within a majestic heritage building, the former building of Romania’s most influential bank during the late 19th century. The Marmorosch Blank Bank Palace was built between 1915-1923, in a neo-Romanian style, with Byzantine and Gothic influences. From a distance, the solid structure resembles a grand palace.
The building is on the list of historical monuments of Bucharest. The construction was commissioned by Marmorosch Bank, Blank & Co, one of the most important Romanian banking institutions of the 1920s, owned by Iacob Marmoroch and Mauriciu Blank. The building is uniquely positioned meters from the imposing National Bank of Romania, yet another spectacular architectural landmark. Mention must also be made that this is probably one of the safest and closely guarded areas of Bucharest.
The Marmoroch Bank operated in the building until its nationalization in 1949. Subsequently, the Investment Bank was headquartered there, and after the Revolution in 1989, the Romanian Development Bank. In 1993 the building was extended to Eugeniu Carada Street. While the main entrance is on a small road accessible by car, the other side of the hotel is on the pedestrian walkways of the Old Town, which is Bucharest’s most sought after destination.
Under the management of Apex Alliance Hotel Management, The Marmorosch underwent an extensive renovation as well as a meticulous restoration reviving the prestige and grandeur of the building, now a luxury hotel. The Marmorosch opened mid 2021 under the affiliation of Marriott International‘s Autograph Collection brand, establishing from the opening a luxury branding, impressive not only for its facilities but also for superlative service standards. Apex Alliance is a leading operator in Central & Eastern Europe and the Baltics.
The Marmorosch boasts one of the most impressive grand lobbies of any luxury hotel in the world under the daylight of a domed painted verriere. The arrival experience is unique, imposing and aristocratic at the same time, with an abundance of superb architectural and decor details, including a majestic marble staircase. The large open atrium is open, yet several spaces have been sensibly conceived – a gourmet restaurant, a bar, a lounge and a coffee space (MBB Coffee) which is also the venue for events as well as a separate venue for breakfast.
At any given time and regardless of the occupancy, thanks to the amplitude of spaces, the hotel never seems too crowded or busy. At the time of my stay, the hotel was running a full house without the smallest impact on the very high service standards, effortlessly and firmly extended by the entire team. Staff are highly motivated, energised and eager to serve, regardless of the department. Thanks to the experience and expertise of Apex, the turnover of staff has been declining, the General Manager succeed in conveying to the team a sense of pride to work for The Marmorosch.
Rooms and suites are predominantly designed in a contemporary design with a good number of classic elements. Most of the rooms and suites are bright and many boast high ceilings. Attention to details is evident, with the aim of providing guests with the ultimate comfort – excellent soundproofing, a silent AC (individually adjustable for any temperature), high speed internet and UHD Tv’s with all smartTv features. You will love the bedding and those on a business trip will appreciate the business desk in all rooms and suites.
The Marmorosch Palace Suite is among the finest luxury suites among all hotels of Bucharest. The suite boasts carved wood panelings (high ceilings), an exquisite dark oak parquet, a built-in fireplace as well as a spacious dining area. The oversized all-marble bathrooms are stunning, with separate vanity, a glass enclosed shower and a free-standing bathtub. The other suites of the hotel are equally impressive, with the same evident pursuit of comfort and functionality. The structure of accommodations is ideal for both leisure and corporate guests.
Under the helm of Head-Chef Ioan Cristian Şerb, The Blank restaurant is one of the leading gastronomical institutions in Romania. Inspired by French and international cuisine, Chef Serb has developed an exceptional tasting menu that is definitely worth the trip. With an elegant decor, the restaurant proposes contemporary fine-dining ingenuity, with an impressive list of locally sourced ingredients.
Despite the bright and elegant decor, The Blank Restaurant is warm and cosy, without being intimidating. Food is exceptional, with a highly trained Sommelier on hand to pair your meals with the best wines. The guest mix has been yet another major achievement, constantly attracting both locals and hotel guests. The selection of dishes to include some Romanian signature specialities (reinterpreted) has also been crucial for its success. Needless to say, service at all dining venues is truly exceptional!
You will be impressed to discover the hotel also includes a luxury spa and an indoor heated swimming pool – which has been a technical achievement, especially in such a historical building. From opening, The Spa has achieved a unique positioning, with highly trained therapists but also some of the finest products, including Sothys and the recently added line of Biologique Recherche. Regardless of the season, the Spa is a unique sanctuary to relax and unwind.
