After making its UAE debut with a property in Dubai’s Business Bay in 2013, The Oberoi Group is expanding by opening The Oberoi Al Zorah in Ajman, a 120-room resort with a private beach and located adjacent to a golf course. This property is slated to open in the first quarter of 2016.
Morocco is another country on the group’s radar. The Oberoi Marrakech will open doors in Q1, 2016 while The Oberoi Casablanca is set to open in Q1 of 2017.
“We’re also looking out for hotels in Doha and Kuwait. Every 12 to 18 months from now, you will see an opening by The Oberoi Group in the GCC,” said Kapil Chopra, president, The Oberoi Group.
However, the company does not believe in a cookie cutter approach to hotel development. It does extensive due diligence before zeroing in on a location and partner for a property. “We’re a boutique greenfield operator and like to build our properties. We are recognised for doing only distinctive, high-end luxury hotels. That’s our core DNA. We prefer a bespoke approach to hotel development,” affirmed Chopra.
Meanwhile, in its domestic market, the Oberoi Group operates 24 hotels and will soon open a resort in Chandigarh, a city in north India. The 61-room resort is situated amid an orange grove orchard. The group is also in negotiations for properties in Goa, Varanasi, Navi Mumbai and a second hotel in Bengaluru.
