Set in Mumbai’s most prestigious location, on the Marine Drive Boulevard along the coast in South Mumbai, with stunning views of the Arabian Sea, The Oberoi Mumbai showcases the very best of Indian hospitality, of the finest international standard. For its flagship property in Mumbai, a landmark of the entire group, The Oberoi masters a flawless level of service, rivalling any other major international luxury hotel chain worldwide.
The basic exterior architecture of the facade does not give away the impressive interior facilities of the hotel. upon entering the hotel, one might be surprised not to find the reception and lobby, which are actually on the first floor. My arrival experience could not be more warm and swift. Away from the bustle of Mumbai, the lobby area on the first floor not only feels like an oasis of peace and calm but instills an air of safety and cosyness. A water fountain flowing from a beautiful black marble pedestal with a huge set of fresh pink lillies. The sheer white marble of exceptional quality (I can only imagine the upkeep) which makes up the reception, concierge desks and the entire floor of the lobby area exquisitely blend with contemporary, sleek, yet comfortable furniture.
The overall, understated luxury character of The Oberoi Mumbai is achieved through the use of top quality materials and finishes, from the wooden floors (solid oak wood) to the intricately hand painted marble top tables in the rooms to the contemporary sculptures in the lobby area.
I was truly impressed by the passion and respect that staff have for their jobs at The Oberoi and this was evident in every single detail of the outstanding quality of service through the hotel. It took me great pleasure watching how carefully staff take care of the fresh lilies which adorn all the public spaces, not to mention the truly genuine smile and heartfelt dedication to anticipate every needs of the guests.
Many reputed international luxury hotel chains could learn from an Oberoi about name recognition and the friendly yet respectful interaction with each and every guest. For instance, although I did not book an airport pick up transfer from the hotel and arranged another car service to pick me up, I was so pleased to be greeted by Oberoi’s aiport representative as if I was coming back home. He escorted me to the car and alerted the hotel I was on my way.
Rooms feature every detail of a top international standard luxury hotel – a large, full marble bathroom with a separate glass enclosed shower and stand alone bathtub (touch screen bathroom TV set – the first of this kind I have seen), heavenly comfortable bed with the softest cotton which feels more like silk, not to mention a large closet space. Although not complimentary, the wi-fi internet is of very high speed and working flawlessly througout the entire hotel. The individually controlled air-conditioning system, of the latest generation has motion sensors and works in adjusting to the desired temperature.
Unlike in the case of many hotels, airconditioning at The Oberoi could not be any more silent. Actually, sound-proofing throughout the entire hotel is another huge plus, providing an insulation to Mumbai’s huge traffic and noise. Blinds and lighting are remotely controlled on bed side panels, within easy reach and so is lighting.
Make sure you do not miss the Indian specialities of the cuisine at the Oberoi (the curry is divine), the fresh promegranate juice at breakfast. Do indulge yourself with the ayurvedic natural bathroom amenities by local company Forest Essentials….and….gaze at the most beautiful sunrise on the Arabian Sea, from the comfort of your bed – worth waking up early!
