The Wellem, an Unbound Collection by Hyatt is located within a historic protected 1913 courthouse in the Andreas Quarter, within a short walking distance of Königsallee and the Rhine river. The Andreas Quartier also features offices, upscale residences, restaurants and bars. A wide variety of restaurants and bars are just outside the property, making the location ideal. City centre and most other attractions of the city including the art museum are within walking distance. The train station is within a 10 minute car ride.
The property is named after Jan Wellem, who together with his wife Anna Maria Luisa of the House of Medici significantly impacted Düsseldorf to become the center of culture and fine arts that it is today. In the spirit of its namesake, The Wellem is home to an impressive collection of contemporary art displayed throughout the property and within guest suites, including works from renowned artists such as Jeff Koons, HA Schult, and Julian Schnabel.
Guests have access to the hotel’s exclusive private Art Concierge, who can introduce guests to the masterpieces on display within the property and also offer tours at the nearby museums and art galleries including the K20 art collection and the Arts Academy of the city of Düsseldorf. The Concierge team can also recommend and make arrangements for the most discerning guests, whether culinary experiences, shopping or sightseeing.
With its spectacular pillared entrance topped with statues of toga-draped deities, The Wellem in Hyatt‘s The Unbound Collection features accommodations which are larger than at any other five star hotel in Dusseldorf. A fully equipped kitchen with mini fridge, washing machine, tumble dryer, Nespresso machine, two TVs and vegan and Italian bath amenities allow you to fully recharge from the urban bustle below.
Each room has separate sleeping and living sections, with the exclusive fifth-floor art suites offering access to the rooftop terrace. Some suites have expansive terraces or balconies. Beds are exceptionally comfortable, otherwise a Hyatt standard, with exquisite mattresses and high-thread cotton linen. Bathrooms are large, featuring separate bathtubs and walk-in showers, with underfloor heating. With our four 89-square metre Terrace Art Suites, we invite our guests to become creative.
During my stay, I indulged in a Terrace Art Suite which covers 90 sqm and feature original art work painted by four famous artists, such as Leon Löwentraut or Julian Schnabel. The suite boasts its own private terrace with garden furniture and view of the Andreas Garden. Like all the other suites, it has come with a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, dryer and the latest bluetooth speaker technology. The suite was utmost serene and quiet, both indoors and outdoors.
The hotel boasts three restaurants where guests can enjoy some of Germany’s culinary highlights or indulge in the tastes and flavors of the Mediterranean. All venues attract both hotel guests and locals, making up for a great, authentic vibe. The Pitti – Cucina Italiana restaurant features Italian delicacies that immerse you in a world of la dolce vita. The service team will be happy to accompany you to the Pitti’s walk-in wine cellar for your personal wine selection.
The original art of Heinz Mack, Stefan Sczesny, Guenther Uecker and Stephan Kaluza give the restaurant a special exhibition-like setting. The green walls and the nature drawing by Stephan Kaluza in the winter garden are reminiscent of the famous Boboli Garden of the de Medici family in Florence next to the Pitti Palace. The Pitti Bar, which is integrated in the restaurant, offers a selection of Italian wines as well as modern Italian-inspired aperitifs, such as the “Negroni Spagliato”.
Mbassy by Franks opened in July 2022 on Ratinger Straße and is an overall unique concept in Germany, consisting of three gastronomic sub-areas: restaurant / bistro / club. Mbassy by Franks is a culinary experience that can be both elegant and casual. Our cuisine style is “Global Bistronomy”. Casual but with a focus on quality ingredients and cooking techniques, a blend of bistro and gastronomy with flavours from around the world.
The Wellem Bar entices with homemade petits fours, afternoon tea and refreshing cocktails. Experience live music ranging from jazz to soft piano sounds, and relax in our comfortable velvet armchairs at any time of day. The experience in the evening is theatrical and grand in every sense, understandably why it is often considered as the ”Living Room of Dusseldorf”, frequented by an eclectic crowd, along with foreign travellers.
