American luxury house TOM FORD has reached an exclusive franchising agreement for the operation of two major flagship stores in Paris, with local retailer Simon Ibgui. The two stores will be the first of Tom Ford in Paris, a major metropolis where the brand has not been present yet.
The first flagship, of 350 sqm, will be situated on Francois 1er street and will be dedicated to menswear, in line with the concept of all other major international flagship stores. The second Tom Ford flagship in Paris will be located on Saint Honore street and will include both men’s and women’s collections.
Since the launch of Tom Ford’s own label women’s wear last September, it has been unclear how the collection will be distributed, apart from department stores and multibrand stores which already placed orders for the Spring Summer 2011 collection.
Given the tremendous expansion of Tom Ford several product lines, especially in the past three years, with the number of mono brand stores and sales doors doubling, the company was said to be seeking financing. The two upcoming Paris openings, which are not going to be direct operations, confirm that Tom Ford has had challenges in rolling out its international expansion plan.
