French based luxury e-commerce group vente-privee.com has doubled its growth in Europe with a 22% increase compared with an 11% rise in 2011, reaching a gross turnover of €1.3 billion. In 2012, vente-privee.com increased the number of flash sales by 40% compared with 2011, which resulted in the sale of over 60 million products, making up for a core solid business.
Flash sales, which attract 2.5 million unique visitors every day, have made vente-privee.com the leading store of its kind in France. The website has 18 million members throughout 8 European countries: France, Germany, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium and The Netherlands. In the UK alone, where the French site was launched in 2008, vente-privee.com organized 630 flash-sales during the year for its 500,000 members, more than double the number of deals attained in 2011. The positive results have also been driven by growth in flash sales of new product categories such as wine, travel and events tickets.
With a staff structure that is young (average age of 32 years) and multi-cultural (40 nationalities), the business currently employs 1,800 people in Europe and recruited 536 new staff in 2012.
vente-privee.com announced last week the acquisition of a majority stake of the management company of the Théâtre de Paris. The 18-million-member website is leveraging its huge audience towards its objective of becoming a one-stop-shop for artists, offering promotion, distribution, ticket sales and, from now on, even production or co-production for the artist on-stage.
