In commemoration of Virgil Abloh (1980-2021), a major exhibition has been inaugurated at the Grand Palais in Paris. Entitled Virgil Abloh: The Codes, the show has been developed in partnership with Nike, and is curated by multi-hyphenates and husband-and-wife team Chloe Sultan and Mahfuz Sultan, this retrospective is an expanded edition of Virgil Abloh: The Codes which was presented in 2022. This new exhibition reveals how ‘codes’, Abloh’s characteristic design principles, are reflected in his work on fashion, footwear, architecture, music, advertising and more, unifying a practice that spans multiple disciplines.

Additionally, the Virgil Abloh: The Codes exhibition highlights Abloh’s collaborations with several artists, designers and athletes, underscoring the ethics of community and creative dialogue at the heart of his work. Accompanying this exhibition is Virgil Abloh: World’s Fair, a series of public programming including a variety of events, such as workshops, talks, and DJ sets at Grand Palais and across Paris, beautifully bringing together Virgil’s creative community. And that’s not all.
During the exhibition, legendary Parisian concept store Colette, co-founded by Sarah Andelman, has been revived in the rotonde Clemenceau, offering new products designed by Virgil Abloh’s closest collaborators, alongside iconic items, including a reissue of the Virgil Abloh x Braun collaboration and the French translation of art collector Larry Warsh‘s book Abloh-isms
