The acclaimed Artesian cocktail bar at Langham London has won the top spot at Drinks International’s annual competition—The World’s 50 Best Bars. At the bar’s helm are mixologists Alex Kratena and Simone Caporale. The latest menu called “Surrealism,” was inspired by Salvador Dali’s “Les Diners de Gala” and involves cocktails which are served in giant copper ant structures; lit aflame; and spritzed with perfume.
Artesian, The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog, and Nightjar all retained their ranks as the world’s top three watering holes. But there was no lack of noticeable drops, ascensions, and additions: The American Bar at the Savoy (no. 5) is up by three. Employees Only (no. 4) moved up by one. Attaboy (no. 11) dropped eight places. Maison Premiere (no. 23) is up by an astounding 22 spots. And Mace (no. 38) is a new New York entry.
London dominated the roster with nine bars, two of which are Ryan Chetiyawardana’s: White Lyan (no. 26) and Dandelyan (no. 50). The Savoy’s Beaufort Bar (no. 27) also made the cut.
New York came in with eight wins—including all-time achiever PDT (no. 37) plus two of NoMad Hotel’s spaces: Elephant Bar (no. 24) and the NoMad Bar (no. 36).
