The beachwear range, which will be available next Friday in Australian Zegna boutiques before a global release next year, includes a wide variety of swimming trunks plus polo-neck and boat-neck shirts and oversized towels.
In his “new vision for the Ermenegildo Zegna style”, he could not have conceived of “the perfect wardrobe without a beachwear collection”, Sartori told Life & Leisure. Zegna says the new range makes it “the first brand to complete a gentlemen’s wardrobe in its entirety”.
egna’s commitment to vertically integrated manufacturing has long been a selling point – the company owns a merino-wool farm in Australia – so it’s initially surprising to learn that the beachwear collection is being manufactured by Isa Seta, a Milanese fabric producer. But in this case the decision seems wise. Isa Senta already manufactures Zegna’s underwear and is particularly good at working with blended fabrics and at hand-dying and hand-printing
Zegna is launching the beachwear collection in Australia first for logistical and promotional reasons: to take advantage of the arrival of the southern summer, leverage international perceptions of Australia as a beach mecca, and to mark out territory in the global swimwear retail space, which is dominated at the mass-market end by Australian brands such as Speedo and Billabong.
