Jean-Jacques Guevel, Balmain‘s CEO for the past four years, is leaving the house, in the latest departure by a senior executive from the Paris-based maison. Guevel, who was appointed CEO in 2020, “has decided to step down to pursue other interests,” according to an official release from the Paris-based house. The CEO follows Balmain’s marketing director Txampi Diz, who left Balmain six days ago, out the exit door. The house has not named his successor, nor indicated the reasons for the departure.
Guevel joined Balmain in the beginning of 2020 from Zadig & Voltaire and led the company through the Covid-19 pandemic and in the aftermath. Under his tenure, the company has experienced significant growth and evolution, the fashion house added. The CEO negotiated a new beauty licensing deal with Estée Lauder, while the house’s creative director staged major fashion joint catwalk and music shows in Paris.
“Balmain is one of the oldest luxury houses in Paris, with a unique and rich heritage. It has been an incredible journey leading this house through the last years and setting it for further future growth,” said Jean-Jacques Guevel. Balmain is owned by Mayhoola, an investment vehicle controlled by the Qatari royal family.
Mayhoola CEO Rachid Mohamed Rachid: “I want to thank Jean-Jacques for his contribution to the success of Balmain which has all the potential to become a true global luxury goods leader, thanks to its unique heritage, talented Creative Director Olivier Rousteing, and our exceptional colleagues in the brand. We will be building onto the significant growth of the last years and will announce a new CEO in due course.”
