Often described as a visionary hotelier, Alan Faena and his business partners set out to redevelop the derelict Puerto Madero docklands of Buenos Aires in 2000, opening the plush Faena Buenos Aires only four years later, a hotel which helped to put the Argentine capital back on the map of discerning travellers with a mix of luxury hospitality, design, and culture. Following the opening of two properties in Miami, the luxury hospitality brand is once again expanding Stateside, opening new lodgings in New York City.
Aptly called Faena New York, the hotel occupies a newly built high-rise landmark by Danish starchitect Bjarke Ingels, and is situated only a stone’s throw away from the acclaimed High Line urban park. The interior design is a collaborative effort of Faena‘s in-house design team and London-based designer Peter Mikic, oozing unapologetic luxury, opulent style, and last but not least, a dose of sophisticated sexiness that’s innately South American.
The splendour starts right at the voluminous lobby where guests and visitors are greeted by The Sefirotic Journey, a monumental mural by Argentine artist Diego Gravinese. Featuring 120 light-filled guest rooms and suites in various categories, guests will be immersed in sumptuous comfort thanks to a top range of furnishings and fixtures, such as King beds, rich hardwood floors, and a spa-inspired bathroom with Carrara marble tiles.
For those in the mood to splurge, the Crystal Two-bedroom Suite is readily available. At 2,000 sq.ft. (approx. 186 sqm.), it’s the biggest pad on the premises, and obviously comes with a string alluring extras, including a corner living room with elegant seating for four and a dining area, and a private 700 sq.ft. (65 sqm.) outdoor terrace. Needless to say, the eye for detail extends to the public spaces and facilities of Faena New York.
As a matter of fact, each space aims to contribute to a living narrative that carries forward Faena‘s mission to merge art, culture, and community into memorable experiences. Sustaining the aforementioned ambitions, the hotel comes with a number of sumptuous facilities for kindred spirits which are destinations in their own right. Inspired by its namesake at Faena Buenos Aires, the La Cava bar is a stylish hideaway for exclusive gatherings, with access to both The Living Room bar and the El Secreto bar.
The first comes with original murals by renowned Buenos Aires-based creative director and graphic artist Juan Gatti and a grand 160-foot-long gallery, while the latter is a lavish hidden salon and bar, imagined by Alan Faena himself. And then there’s La Boca, a restaurant headed by star chef Francis Mallmann, serving a menu that blends Spanish, Italian, and Patagonian influences in yet another opulent setting filled with curated art, chandeliers, and nightly music.
