Situated just outside the vibrant heart of Marrakech on Route de Ouarzazate, The Oberoi Marrakech offers a serene sanctuary surrounded by fragrant citrus orchards, centuries-old olive groves, and lush gardens, all framed by breathtaking views of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. This exceptional resort is the culmination of a decade-long vision to create a peaceful retreat where traditional Moroccan craftsmanship meets modern luxury and impeccable service.
From the moment I arrived, I was immersed in an atmosphere that balances tranquility with refined sophistication. The resort’s architecture masterfully blends authentic Moroccan elements such as tadelakt plasterwork, intricate zellij tiles, and carved cedar wood with clean contemporary lines and spacious open-air designs. The design of The Oberoi Marrakech draws inspiration from Morocco’s rich architectural heritage.
At its heart lies a grand courtyard reminiscent of the Medersa Ben Youssef, one of Marrakech’s most celebrated monuments. This tribute to traditional artistry not only honors the city’s cultural history but also creates a sense of timelessness that connects the resort to its surroundings.
Meandering pathways wind through verdant gardens and calming water features, evoking the feeling of a private oasis perfectly tailored for relaxation. Perhaps the most striking feature is the central waterway, a shimmering canal that stretches toward the horizon. Inspired by the legendary reflection pools of the Taj Mahal, it adds both grandeur and serenity, serving as a symbolic thread that ties the resort’s contemporary elegance to a lineage of world-renowned architectural marvels.
My Deluxe Pool Villa was a true haven of privacy and comfort. The spacious living area was adorned with artisanal Moroccan furnishings in warm earth tones that reflect the surrounding landscape. Large arched doorways opened onto a sunlit terrace with a private plunge pool, an idyllic spot for morning coffee or an evening dip.
The bedroom, with its king-size bed and plush linens, invited restful nights, while the bathroom provided a spa-like experience featuring a soaking tub, rain shower, and luxurious amenities infused with local ingredients such as argan oil and orange blossom. Each morning, breakfast was served in the privacy of our villa, allowing a leisurely start to the day while enjoying the peaceful surroundings and stunning views.
The Oberoi‘s service is nothing short of exceptional. Discreet yet intuitive, the dedicated staff anticipate every need with genuine warmth and professionalism.
Each villa benefits from a personal butler available 24/7, ensuring seamless privacy and convenience. Even after dinner at Rivayat, Michelin-starred Chef Rohit Ghai’s Indian-Moroccan fusion restaurant, the sous chef personally came by to inquire about our dining experience, a thoughtful gesture that exemplifies the team’s genuine care. Dining at Rivayat was a highlight, with the thoughtful fusion of spices and flavors paired with impeccable service and a stunning setting under the stars.
Around the main pool, sun cream was thoughtfully provided, adding to the sense of attentive care throughout the resort. The spa offers a holistic wellness experience, blending traditional hammam rituals with innovative treatments using organic Moroccan botanicals. With tranquil treatment rooms overlooking the gardens and a serene relaxation lounge, it promises a deeply rejuvenating escape that I look forward to experiencing fully on my next visit.
Sustainability is thoughtfully integrated throughout the resort, from water conservation initiatives to organic gardens, enhancing the harmony between The Oberoi Marrakech and its natural surroundings. As a final touch of hospitality, we were gifted a bottle of extra virgin olive oil, sourced directly from the very olive trees that flourish on the property, a perfect memento of our stay. Subtle yet striking details such as ambient lighting highlighting architectural features at night, curated local artwork, and soothing water elements scattered across the property all contribute to the resort’s unique charm.
These touches, combined with Oberoi’s commitment to excellence, firmly establish it among Marrakech’s premier luxury destinations. One consideration is the resort’s location, set apart from both the medina and the Palmeraie district, which means guests will need transportation to explore the bustling souks and cultural landmarks.
In a city renowned for its vibrant culture and luxury hospitality, The Oberoi Marrakech stands as a refined, tranquil retreat, a decade in the making, crafted with care to offer an authentic and unparalleled experience. My warmest thanks to the entire team for delivering such an exceptional stay.
