The Shepherd Mayfair, a new boutique hotel in the heart of Shepherd Market, is set to open in 2026. Located within one of Mayfair’s most historic enclaves, the hotel has been conceived by Buckley Gray Yeoman in collaboration with Timothy Shepherd, founder and managing director of Shepherd&, drawing on the architectural spirit of the original Mansions of Mayfair and reinterpreting them through a contemporary, story-led lens.
Occupying 33,600 square feet, the hotel will feature 82 guest rooms and suites arranged across six floors, alongside a trio of food and drink destinations. These include Fayre, a modern all-day dining destination; The Lounge, a café-style space offering artisan coffee and light bites; and Teddy’s, a darkly atmospheric hidden cocktail bar set to become a late-night hotspot. The Shepherd Mayfair forms part of Elegant Hotel Collection.
Design throughout the hotel reflects the layered character of Shepherd Market, combining refined historical references with a sense of curiosity and discreet playfulness. Two contrasting arrival experiences define the property, with one entrance offering a calm, arcaded approach from Mayfair and another opening directly into the lively village atmosphere of the market. Interiors are informed by classic British design, tactile materials and thoughtful detailing, with subtle narrative references woven throughout, including nods to local historical figures and Mayfair’s lesser-known connections to wartime intelligence.
Guest rooms are individually shaped in keeping with the building’s townhouse origins, pairing rich timber tones with softer finishes, upholstered curves and carefully considered lighting. Blue accents, red velvet curtains, window seats and travel-inspired detailing create a sense of intimacy and comfort, while marble bathrooms include walk-in showers and, in some cases, baths and separate seating areas.
Designed by Timothy Shepherd, during his previous role as Managing Director at Buckley Gray Yeoman ID. Shepherd&, founded by Timothy Shepherd and three others, has continued the client relationship with Bain Capital and Orka Investments. The Shepherd Mayfair, Hotel reinterprets the original ‘Mansions of Mayfair’ through a contemporary, narrative-led approach.
Its interiors are layered with character and texture, offering a deeply personal experience that honours the elegance of the past while embracing a quietly modern sensibility. With a curated collection of artworks, including pieces by George McLeod and Jack English, and a design ethos rooted in British craft, the hotel has been shaped as a collector’s retreat, where taste, curiosity and understated sophistication meet. Every detail is intentionally considered, from the art that animates each space to the service touchpoints and the natural shift in atmosphere from morning coffee to late-night cocktails.
