Althoff Hotels was founded in 1987 by Thomas H. Althoff and his wife, Elke Diefenbach-Althoff. The company, which is a prominent, privately owned German luxury hotel group, was established with the opening of the Hotel Regent International in Cologne. It has since grown to include the Althoff Collection, AMERON, and Urban Loft brands across Europe. The group now operates 18 hotels in Germany, France, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
In 2020, visionary luxury hotelier Frank Marrenbach joined Althoff Hotels as CEO marking a significant new chapter in the history of the German hotel group. Under his tenure, Althoff has set out to open two new luxury flagship properties in Cologne and Frankfurt. While the property in Cologne is still undergoing renovations, THE FLORENTIN in Frankfurt opened quietly in December 2025.
Formerly operated by Rocco Forte Hotels and known as Villa Kennedy, the luxurious property in the heart of Frankfurt has been rebranded as THE FLORENTIN. Following a multi-million dollar renovation, The Florentin has now emerged as one of Germany’s finest luxury hotels, with state-of-the-art product and exceptional service standards. The property has been attracting primarily corporate guests but its leisure clientele has been growing too.
The Florentin boasts not only some of the largest luxury hotel rooms and suites in Frankfurt but also some of the most beautifully appointed, with superb bedding, exceptional bathrooms and latest high-tech. The interior design is predominantly understated with luxurious materials and exquisite finishes. All accommodations feature generous spaces with seating areas for those traveling on business. Soundproofing is superlative throughout the entire property.
Much like the rest of the hotel, at the Spa, the tone is discreet, the service warm and precise. Five treatment rooms, including one room for two, enable individual, targeted treatments. The expansive heated indoor pool is filled with natural light. Sauna include a Finnish sauna, bio sauna, steam bath and infrared cabin. Bright, elegant relaxation rooms, designed with wood, natural fabrics and warm colours, as well as a spa garden, complete the offer.
THE FLORENTIN boasts a stunning courtyard which will surely be a major draw during the warmer months. The grandeur of the inner courtyard has reminded me of the Palace ranked hotels in Paris, including the glass enclosed lateral pathways. Despite the firm luxury positioning of the property, service is exquisitely warm, welcoming and attentive – with a predominant effortless approach. Safety and privacy are paramount!
An essential DNA component, all the Althoff Hotels feature outstanding culinary and dining offerings. There are three dining venues at THE FLORENTIN, an-all-day dining (The Garden) with an elegant setting overlooking the superb inner courtyard, a fine dining venue (the dune) and The Florentin Bar which is conceived as a central meeting point.
A space of contrasts, inspired by the world and in motion like the dune itself, the dune is precise, intense, yet light and elegant. The dishes follow nature, the cycles and the dynamics of the seasons. The integrity of the product is always the focus. Combined with a culture of hospitality characterised by presence, calm and structure, the dune creates moments that linger.
Without any doubt, the highlight of THE FLORENTIN is the spectacular Villa. Once the home of the renowned Frankfurt Speyer family, this grand mansion combines history, art and culture in a unique way, with a collection of the most refined signature suites, each individually designed. The spacious communal areas convey a unique senses of luxury through space, relaxation and reflection. Staying at the Villa has a unique sense of privacy, in many ways aristocratic.
The luxury of space is impressive! Most of the public areas in the Villa are conceived without a revenue generating purpose. Guests can indulge by reading a book, meeting friends, working but also enjoying a quiet and private moment. Some spaces including the Cigar Room are sensibly conceived with a more bold color aesthetic, yet in keeping with the superb quality of all furnishings throughout the hotel.
One cannot overlook how loved the property has always been with many returning guess, including non-resident local patrons. Most of them are overtly excited to discover a exquisitely transformed and enhanced version of their beloved property, As a first-time guest the team has ensured I benefit from the attention and care which is extended towards long time returning guests,
Oliver Petcu in Frankfurt
