Selling your home can be a complicated and lengthy process, so you will always want to find ways to sell your home quickly and maximise the sale price. Interestingly, one of the best ways to do this is with the interior design. Fitted wardrobe expert, Hammonds, surveyed 2000 UK adults to find out what designs would put people off and what would make them increase their offer.
Minimalism
It is hard to go wrong with minimalism when looking to sell your home and you might find that it helps with the sale process. 40% of Brits look for this style within a home and this will include white walls, minimal clutter, and clean lines. In addition to being an attractive style, this can also make it much easier for someone to imagine themselves living in the home. Minimalism appeals more to men (46%) than women (36%) and people would pay on average £3.6K more for a minimalist home.
Neutral Colours
Neutral colours are also popular and have seen a huge following and trend on TikTok in recent times. Interestingly, 34% would make an offer above the asking price if the home had a farmhouse decor and this is the most popular style among the women surveyed. 33% would offer more for a Scandinavian interior design style and is another style focused on neutral colours and natural materials. As above, it is easy to see why this is appealing to house hunters because the designs are always palatable, and it is much easier to see yourself living somewhere with a neutral colour palette.
Maximalism
Maximalism is an interesting interior design style that has proved to be popular in recent times with Google searches up 125% in the last three months. Although a popular style, it is not an appealing option to house hunters and 32% claimed that they would offer below the asking price for a home in this style. Other styles that are popular but not appealing to buyers include Bohemian and art deco styles with 31% claiming that they would also pay less for these styles. These are all styles that are loud and filled with personality, which could deter a potential buyer and it could be hard to imagine yourself living somewhere with a loud interior design style.
If you are looking to sell your home, you should always consider the interior design style and try to make it somewhere that is neutral and appealing to all. This will make it easier for someone to picture themselves living there and could even help you to get more money from the sale. You will want to reduce clutter as much as possible with smart storage solutions, and remember to learn how to stage a successful open house when you decide to sell
