Cartier has unveiled Timothée Chalamet is the maison’s newest Friend of the House, as the American actor wears a selection of vintage Cartier pieces for the premiere of Dune at the Venice International Film Festival.
It turns out, however, that Chalamet was already a fully paid-up Cartier fan, having worn their pieces on the red carpet on multiple occasions in the past, entirely of his own accord. According to Cartier, Chalamet was even specifically keen to work with the brand’s jewelry instead of the typical decision for male actors to showcase their watches.
Friday evening Chalamet celebrated the new friendship by showing up in Cartier in the Venice at the premiere of Dune. He stars in the latest version of Franck Herbert’s famously unfilmable science fiction romp. This latest edition of the cinema celebration marks the first time that Cartier has become the main official partner of the Venice festival, staged this year from September 1 to 11.
Chalamet has long been known as a fashion plate, often listed on the world’s best-dressed men lists. Back in February 2020 he appeared at the semi-virtual Academy Awards in a mega art deco 1955 Cartier brooch with 117 diamonds, rubies, white gold and platinum.
As a Friend of the House, Chalamet will be collaborating with Cartier on various events and appearances. “As a man of passion, independence, open-mindedness and creativity, Timothée’s bold approach to life – conveyed through his professional choices and his free-spirited style – is intrinsically aligned with Cartier’s core values,” said Arnaud Carrez, Cartier’s SVP and chief marketing officer.
Besides Dune, Chalamet this year stars in the following releases: Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch and Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up. As well as recently wrapping Bones And All directed by Luca Guadagnino, Chalamet will shortly begin production on Wonka, directed by Paul King. And he is due to play Bob Dylan in Going Electric, directed by James Mangold.
Cartier is fully owned by Richemont.
