Stepping inside the entrance is an invitation to a voyage of discovery, a world where Catalan craftsmanship and Parisian refinement meet. Iconic Chaumet codes harmonise with the city of Barcelona’s modernist spirit, as evidenced by the handcrafted ceramic flooring stretching across this new showcase. A vibrant homage to the architect Gaudí, its shapes subtly recall pieces of Chaumet High Jewellery.
At the heart of the boutique, a column with relief rings provides a modern evocation of the organic volumes with which Gaudí is associated. The space is animated by a Patricia de la Torre fresco, referencing Gaudí’s signature tiles and the identifying features of the Joséphine collection, generating an artistic dialogue in the process. The walls embrace the space with their enveloping curves, affirming the desire of Chaumet to integrate into the modernist environment of Paseo de Gracia.
On Carrer de Mallorca, the window display unfolds as a radiant scenography in which organic geometry responds to the forms of the local architecture, providing a Catalan interpretation of the Bee de Chaumet collection’s signature honeycomb motif. The luminous effect extends across the entire window and is reflected even in the delicate embroidery of the curtains framing it.
The Spanish influence on Chaumet designs is evident in two major artistic movements: Hispano-Moresque art and Catalan modernism. Hispano-Moresque art, which arose from the encounter between Islamic and Christian cultures in medieval Spain, inspired jewels richly adorned with gold, enamel and precious stones, a style popular since the 19th century.
This inspiration continued into the 20th century, as evidenced by Lady Edwina Mountbatten’s trefoil tiara. Meanwhile, Catalan modernism, with its elegant curves, asymmetry, plant motifs and female busts, also informed the Chaumet style. This influence was not limited solely to jewellery design but continues today, particularly in the decor and architecture of the Chaumet boutique in Barcelona.
