This September, China Tang at The Dorchester reaches an extraordinary milestone: two decades since first welcoming guests in 2005. Conceived by the visionary Sir David Tang, the restaurant has become one of London’s most beloved culinary institutions, offering celebrities, loyal regulars and newcomers alike a place to feel warmly welcomed amid an atmosphere of timeless elegance and exceptional Cantonese cuisine.
Sir David Tang’s vision of marrying the glamour of 1930s Shanghai with the refined sophistication of Mayfair came vividly to life in China Tang. The restaurant’s opulent Art Deco interiors and impeccable hospitality have made it a cornerstone of The Dorchester and London’s vibrant dining scene. Over twenty years, countless memorable moments and celebrations have unfolded within its luxurious private rooms, atmospheric bar and bustling main dining area.
To mark this milestone, the iconic venue is undergoing a thoughtful refurbishment designed to enhance its timeless charm. Guests will experience refreshed interiors featuring elegant new carpets, subtle design touches and an updated aesthetic that honours the restaurant’s distinguished heritage. These enhancements promise a refined yet reassuringly familiar experience, where guests can continue to enjoy China Tang’s renowned Peking Duck, exceptional dim sum and warm, attentive service.

Adding to this significant year, the restaurant will unveil striking new staff uniforms created by acclaimed Chinese fashion designer Huishan Zhang. Renowned for his distinctive East- meets-West style, Zhang’s designs grace global tastemakers and icons. His creations for China Tang embody the restaurant’s sophisticated identity, blending classic tailoring with contemporary elegance.
The 20-year milestone also represents a meaningful transition, symbolically passing the baton to a new generation of guests who first visited as children and now return with families of their own. Nathalie Ford, VP Europe and Middle East for China Tang, reflects on this evolution: “Celebrating 20 years of China Tang honours not only Sir David’s remarkable legacy but also the generations of guests who have made our restaurant a cherished part of their lives. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to delivering the same understated glamour, timeless hospitality and genuine warmth he envisioned.”
This anniversary crowns a landmark period of international expansion for China Tang. Following the successful opening of Dim Sum by China Tang in Harrods Dining Hall in autumn 2024, May 2025 marked the brand’s debut in the Middle East with China Tang Dubai at The Lana, a striking new Dorchester Collection property. These expansions underline the enduring appeal and adaptability of the China Tang brand as it continues to enchant new audiences worldwide.
