Recently, construction has begun on the 67-story Kempinski Hotel & Residences in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which is set to open in 2015. The new Kempinski Hotel will be part of the SailTower mixed-used complex designed by Perkins+Will. The design of the 260m /853ft tall tower is a slender rectangle, situated perpendicular to the shoreline in order to optimize solar exposure and maximize views of the water. The building’s exterior is a unique system of synthetic fabric “architectural sails” that shade the interior spaces, protect balconies from the wind, maintain privacy, and house LED lights that create a distinctive pattern over the entire surface of the building.
The SailTower complex also includes serviced apartments and condominiums, retail and underground parking for 600. Kempinski Hotel & Residences Jeddah at SailTower will feature 242 rooms and 122 residences, a luxury spa and fitness area, an indoor pool, conference rooms, a children’s club, 3 restaurants, 2lounges, function and banquet rooms.
Kempinski marks its debut in Saudi Arabia with Burj Rafal Hotel Kempinski, Riyadh due to open in the first half of 2014, followed by Kempinski Al Othman Hotel in the city of Al Khobar which is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2014.
