DIOR has launched a new menswear collection, Modern Tailoring, a blend of chic and sartorial. In celebration, Dior Men’s artistic director Kim Jones called on a highly varied group of buddies to model the range, which debuts today in Dior flagship boutiques and online. A behind-the scenes video captures the mix-and-match mood of Modern Tailoring; much of which is made in dry wool takes in the signature shade of Monsieur Dior, pewter grey.
Shot photographer by Brett Lloyd, Jones’ tailoring troupe stars Kailand Morris, the son of Stevie Wonder and fashion designer Kai Millard Morris, who interned at Dior last summer. Kailand dons new variations of Jones’ inventive new crossover double-breasted suit with matching shoulder ribbon, which he has developed over the past few seasons.
French actors Arnaud Valois and Jérémie Laheurte also appear, as does Younes Bendjima, a former boxer and model, carefully being fitted in the collection, which features artful detailing – mini logo buttons; breast pockets with flaps and buttons and jogging pants finished with zippered ankles.
“Tailoring, elegance and couture are the key elements here at Dior, and I would like to build on that and work with it. That’s what Dior stands for and what people require and attracts them to Dior,” explained Jones.
“I wanted to retain Dior’s tailoring aspects, which are an important part of the business, but I wanted to make them more contemporary and a little more relaxed at the same time. I did not necessarily want to make suits that people wear to work, but design suits that men would love to wear to work,” added the British designer.
His new crew, which also includes models Babacar N’doye, Issa Naciri and Ludwig Wilsdorff, nearly all of whom wear T-shirts, accessorize their looks with the Dior B27 sneaker with jacquard print.
