Whether you are on a holiday and have been so excited about travelling abroad or are reluctant to go because it’s a job assignment, it doesn’t really matter. Sometimes stress levels rise with extremes in emotions, one way or the other, and it becomes necessary to calm down a bit. If you are travelling abroad, especially in a country where English isn’t the national language, you might be subjected to even greater levels of stress. While you can’t very well take an anti-anxiety medication because it might make you too drowsy to function well, there must be something you can do to reduce the levels of stress you are experiencing. Here are a few natural ways to reduce stress without putting you in a state of lethargy.
Take a Step Back
The very first thing you should do is simply take a step back, figuratively that is. Simply find a place to sit for a moment, take a few deep breaths and let your mind focus on something you find to be relaxing. Even if you are in a crowded airport, for example, just find a place to sit. Close your eyes and picture a place of comfort for you. It could be a beach, your garden, or even a park with a waterfall. Keep that image in your mind so that your body will naturally relax, letting the tension melt away.
Step Outside With Your Vaping Device
Even if you are still a smoker, there are places where you aren’t comfortable lighting up. Many people carry e-cigarettes or small vaping devices to take a quick puff. Sometimes when you have quit smoking and vape an e-liquid without nicotine, the mere act of vaping can calm the nerves. There are several products on GoSmokeFree that have zero nicotine and can safely be vaped when you feel the need for that quick puff to calm the nerves. Choose from e-liquids, vape kits, and more. However, be advised that most countries now forbid vaping as well as smoking indoors, so this is a ‘quick fix’ you will need to enjoy outside and away from doors by at least 20 feet in most countries.
Keep a Translating App Handy
Some travellers have a real fear of not being able to get around in a country where English isn’t commonly spoken. If you are travelling in a country where you don’t understand the language, there are translating apps for your smartphone. Sometimes it helps for the person you are trying to communicate with to hear the word you want them to understand. These apps are easy to install from an app store, but you may need to have reception if being online is necessary.
Always remember that being stressed in new situations is common, so don’t let the mere fact that you are stressed lead to greater stress levels. Try to calm down a bit so that you can find reasonable ways to relax your mind for a moment. Even if it means stopping to sit with your eyes closed for a few moments, then do so.
