Qatar Luxury Group (QLG), a company directly controlled by HRH Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser, First Lady of Qatar, is launching the first Qatari luxury fashion brand, QELA, with the first store opening scheduled 22nd September at The Pearl in Doha (controlled by the Al Fardan family).
QELA will offer measured collections including stylish leather goods, sophisticated shoes, refined jewellery and women’s made-to-measure couture. QELA will be made in the state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities of QLG in Doha by highly skilled craftsmen, many from Europe. The next QELA boutique is planned to open in Paris on Avenue Montaigne later this Fall and will be followed by an opening in New York, Spring 2014. All QELA stores will feature in-store exhibitions by local artists to create a space dedicated to culture that reflects the brand’s values of openness, creativity and spirituality.
Qatar Luxury Group (QLG) which was set up in 2008 and is headed by CEO Gregory Couillard (ex LVMH) also owns premium French leatherwear company Le Tanneur and several fine dining outlets in Doha. The QELA project was initiated in 2009, when the trademark was registered in the U.S., the qela.com website being registered in 2002.
QLG is expected to be involved in another project directly controlled by Sheikha Mozah, Msheireb Downtown Doha, a mixed use development covering 31 hectares which will comprise more than 100 buildings, with a combination of commercial and residential properties, retail (including an ample luxury retail project), cultural and entertainment areas.
