The InterContinental Geneva underwent extensive renovations, which were completed in phases in 2014, that involved redesigning all public areas, rooms, and suites under the direction of Tony Chi. The renovation modernized the hotel’s interior while preserving the exterior facade, which is protected by Swiss heritage laws. A major highlight was the creation of the three large residential suites on the top floor.
All rooms were updated to feature a modern understated Japanese aesthetic with spacious layouts and amenities like Byredo and Nespresso machines. The three large suites (The Residence, Presidential Residence, and Diplomatic Residence) were created on the 18th floor, offering panoramic views and private living space. The signature suites are among the largest in Geneva, often hosting dignitaries, VIPs and celebrities.
The original reception area was replaced with a “Great Hall” featuring monumental columns and grand staircases. The Woods Restaurant was updated with new features, including a table made from tree trunks. In 2023, the hotel introduced a new Cinq Mondes spa. The updated facility features four treatment rooms, a hammam, a sauna, and a fitness room. The overall interior design aesthetic is warm, welcoming but also functional and comfortable.
The hotel has also implemented changes to improve sustainability, such as locally sourcing food, eliminating single-use plastics, and using lake water and renewable energy for cooling. Use of water from Lake Geneva enables the hotel to cool the premises with 100% renewable energy, thanks to the Geneva Lake Nations project. LED lighting has been installed in our 333 rooms, conference facilities and common areas
Woods Restaurant is the main dining venue of the property, which is equally frequented by resident guests but also locals. Every week, Chef Quentin Jacquemoud presents a unique ephemeral menu with refined creations inspired by the seasons and the finest local products – an à la carte selection is also be available. In recognition of our commitment to local ingredients and culinary know-how, the Woods has been certified with the Terroir Genevois and Fait Maison labels.
Service at InterContinental has been consistent throughout all departments, including F&B, housekeeping, Front Office and Guest Relations. The property has been a solid service reputation for decades, the renovations having enhanced standards even further. The hotel is not only attracting corporate and diplomatic guests but also leisure guests, including families, especially because of the proximity to both the airport and city center but also thanks to its facilities.
